Yes, it would be great to have the game here on GOG, I'd love to play it again.

It would be great to have Alice: Madness Returns added to the shop, as that comes with the original game.

Unless EA what's to make a big deal about the anniversary, they'll just keep it on Origin. GOG could reach out to them, and maybe get the ball rolling, but other than that... :(

To my knowledge it doesn't. I think that was just some pre-order bonus or something. I have Madness Returns on Origin but no American McGee's Alice. EA doesn't sell it separately either.

Also, I might be mistaken but I was under the impression that Madness Returns had been on Steam one time, but it doesn't seem to be anymore. So good luck for GOG getting from EA what Steam is not able to. But who knows, the Blizzard deal was totally unexpected, too.

That's weird, because someone I know bought it as a download last year on sale for their PlayStation 3 and it came with the original game, so it's certainly not a pre-order bonus or "limited" edition (I was asked about it and recommended it because the description said it came with the original). I had played Madness Returns on PC some years beforehand and it did have American McGee's Alice with it; I even inspected the Alice 1 files to verify that they were the same as my disc copy and that the claim of it being "remastered" was false.

After checking around some, I see the double game version being sold as "Alice: Madness Returns - Ultimate Edition" and "Alice: Madness Returns - The Complete Collection". So yeah, if GOG could get _that_ version it would be great.

The weird thing is that it was kind of already on Origin, as a pre-order bonus for the sequel. Why they never released it on its own after that is beyond me.

Original game was made by Rogue Entertainment, so it had some of that 1990s id Software DNA in it. It is a bit rough around the edges, but the idea was great, it had great design, very unique weapons, atmosphere and a very memorable soundtrack. I would say American McGee's Alice is more interesting world than the Wonderland the book author originally made.

Unfortunately the sequel Madness Returns was developed by a Chinese company and it has terrible design and is one of the most repetitive games I played. In original game every location was unique and brought something new. Meanwhile in the sequel every level is identical, by that I mean each location is just a linear corridor filled with different textures and 3D assets. There is no sense of location like the gym, library or theater in Fortress Of Doors, everything just feels like another abstract corridor broken up with floating platforms.

You constantly have identical jumping segments with those floating fans and stuff. Jumping and fighting segments are sharply separated. Other problems in the game was lack of boss fights and those ridiculous mini-games that were really poorly executed and didn't add anything to the game, they could simply remove those.

What was really good about MR is the actual fighting, that was really done well, but like I said it is just too repetitive game. At first I did not like the story in the game at all, it seemed too dark and out of place, but then I realized who inspired the whole story from real life, it was eye opening realization and very controversial and interesting.

If they made the game shorter with less repetitive corridors, removed those mini-games and added few more boss fights, it could have been a better game.

That's because the books aren't really about consistent world building but about language, nonsense and wordplays. I love the first Alice game but American McGee is no Lewis Carroll. ;)

But I agree that his first game is much better than Madness Returns. I see. Apparently that package with the first game included is very hard to come by on PC though. It might only be available in certain regions, if anymore at all.

Great game that is now almost impossible to get a hold of. We definitely need it on GOG.

GOOD game. So good, I never understood it, even after I finished it. :-) Even 20 years later its still too surreal for me. Too much happening in the mind of young girl, but I was glad she managed to solve it.
