It's an online forum where practically everyone is anonymous. Internet forums are perfect environments for Lord of The Flies scenarios. All you can do is manage it, you can't change human nature as a whole.

The new rules are helping manage it and keeping things under control. It really isn't an issue that can be solved. Every larger forum has these problems.

Can't say that I think highly of the new rules, on the grounds that this could lead to muzzling valid criticism or outright shuttering the main forum.

I think that GOG would be better served by creating several forums dedicated to specific topics. EG:

*The Galaxy of Games - General game discussion.

*Presenting the Peanut Gallery - None-game general discussion.

*Atop the Political Tinderbox - NSFW discussion about politics.

*Life Amongst Old Games Salesmen - Game giveaways and trades.

*An Overflowing Suggestion Box - Players suggest games and GOG initiatives.

*Ye Old Outdated Games - Players report games that need updated patches.

*GOGBear's Lair - Site Issues.

Just seeing this now as well, and I have no excuse since I've been posting here (albeit more intermittently) all along.

The only one I can see myself running afoul of us derailing threads - I mean, I'd like to think my brilliant posts are related, but they are often of the tangential variety...

Guess no one has reported me yet, though ;)
