GOG really needs to fix the issue of how different editions [normal/Kickstarter/pre-ordered/etc] of the same game are handled in the database. It's already pretty bad, and only going to get worse as time goes on.

Some of the issues:
* Reviews for one edition of the game don't appear on the game card for others.
* Buying a "superior" edition of a game doesn't mark lesser versions as owned, so sales (etc) can be confusing.
* Update notifications don't show up properly for the alternate editions of the games. (Update notifications in general need serious attention, but there are myriad other threads about that.)
* DLC as its own page has been a flaw since the beginning.
* Wishlist issues, such as buying one edition of a game doesn't remove others from your wish list or having different editions of the same game in your wishlist.
* Ability to "upgrade" from one edition to another is currently flawed. Sometimes one edition, andor another, andor the edition upgrade is on sale without others.
* Downloading and keeping track of these items are problematic as different editions (and various DLCs) go to different folders when downloaded with Downloader/Galaxy.
* In no way should soundtracks have their own separate "game card"!
* It's impossible to get proper counting for titles on GOG with the various ways things are numbered.
* Others I'm sure...

Not only are these of high importance for the customers, you'd think GOG would work on it to make their systems simpler and easier to maintain for themselves. I was really surprised it didn't move to this when the Galaxy/transaction history version of the site came live. I mean, ideally, pre-order/crowdfunded/deluxe editions of the game really could-should be handled by a single unified "DLC and add-ons for this one master product" issue. It'd also work [acceptably] for the unbundling that happened.

Hell, maybe it can even help fix the forums not checking to subscribe to new forums when you buy a game. ;)

Agree completely.
They can't even properly sort games in your library based on alphabetical and numerical order of a series. What on God's green Earth makes you think they care about some really good in depth shit like this?
TL;DR but my Pillars of Eternity Hero edition still doesn't shows as owned. GOG should do something about properly fixing the catalog.

I agree with all that you wrote. But, it's going to be impossible to get "proper" counting either way, even with all this fixed. Do we treat expansion packs as a game? What about stand-alone expansion packs, that don't need the game? How about DLCs that are called DLCs but for all intents and purposes are just expansion packs? Gold/Diamond/GOTY... editions? Multiple games in a pack (like MM6)? What about fan-made bonus games like Sowrds of Xeen or combined games like World of Xeen? It will be impossible to get a "proper" count. Or rather, proper count will be whatever we define as "proper".

But otherwise yes, it's time these things gets fixed.

I guess my original post covered too much to elicit much discussion.

Yeah.

I don't know anyone who things the website and catalog are fine as-is. Everything is broken in some subtle way. Been going on for years though so I've stopped hoping GOG will fix anything.
Bumping this thread because I'm still very annoyed with the fact I own several base games + deluxe/goty editions upgrade, but on sales, shop, etc, The "deluxe" or "GOTY" edition is not marked as owned by me.

Very confusing, please GOG, this is 2017, fix this crappiness once and for all.
I think steam does it pretty well in some cases, you have a base game and GOTY editions are just bundles including the DLC. So owning a GOTY marks the GOTY as owned (since it really is just a bundle). It could solve the issue GoG has right now as The Witcher 3 retail I own doesn't mark the Witcher 3 (regular) as owned, yet I also own GOTY for owning the season pass. I suppose this likely isn't a huge priority at GoG but it's something they could take into consideration.

I actually noticed this just this week too.
I have a game I got from Kickstarter, I bought an upgrade pack from the sales, yeah, both of those are marked as owned, but the package which contains those in one purchase is still marked as not owned.

While that may seem like a minor issue, it may come a very big issue with some bundle kind of promotion in the future, where GOG thinks I don't own that game when I actually already do.
