The announcement Jodie Whittaker will play Doctor Who in the next series brings about social commentary regarding strong female role models and leading character roles in the twenty-first century.
Doctor Who is now a female.
About time .

It's a beautiful thing they are doing but I still have a feeling this is going to turn into an angry thread. :P
This is awesome. Really looking forward to it!
Well, The Master was also turned into a female in one of the latest series. Kinda makes sense The Doctor would follow a similar path.

Yeah, they ruined my favouirte still running show for me :P

Unfortunately just as liking Rogue One and Fury Road and every other recent movie with female lead made me a leftist SJW cunt to one group of idiots, now not liking this will make me a misogynist to another. And the simple thing is, I hate genderbending, whichever way it goes. I'd be as upset if Wonder Woman was to be a dude in the sequel. It has nothing to do with characters of one gender being "better", it's just that it fundamentally rewrites an established character.

But I don't hate the actress who took the job - she got a great offer so of course she took it. And if people are going to have fun with this- fine, I guess. I'll sit this new showrunners tenure out, and maybe I'll check back when someone new takes over, which usually means a soft reboot.

Yeah. I know, I shouldn't even try to be serious in a thread like this, and it will probably bite me in the ass, even though I tried to pu it as reasonably as possible.

Being serious isn't the problem, it's your being totally full of shit that I'm having trouble with.

But I'm too tired and jaded to argue about it.

Really? Et tu?

Ah well, that's the times we live in. Everyone has gone daft and tribalistic. You have a different opinion? Well then, argle bargle hate! I'm so tired of that... I have no idea what I said that would be so full of shit, but I stand by everything in that post. I insulted no one, I especially mentioned liking female leads in other titles to make sure everyone knows that it's not a problem for me... It's no different then how I don't like rewrting Batman to have a ten year old son or making Superman be made of electricity or something. It's a change to an established character I don't like and I don't think makes sense. If that means I'm "full of shit" - Sure. Fine. Whatever.

I know exactly what you mean. Even though I'm not against the gender change (it's a shape-shifting alien, anyway) I think this alteration was only made in order to please the "fem-lib" movement, and not in order to bring some significant meaning to the show.

But change is a part of life. And maybe it will be good for the show if they can make it right.
So what? There isn't a new thread with every new Doctor why should there be one this time?

Or it might be to stirr up controversy to improve rating. Or it might genuinely be the new showrunner's vision. I don't know, and I don't care. I'm not calling it some great conspiracy, and I don't hate the actress for taking a great opportunity (of course she took it, who wouldn't?). I'm not filled with hate against anyone over this. It's just a change I don't like, I don't think makes sense. That's all.
