mchack: For the Greater Good, I Reverend Philip Shooter had a sex change and am now back to Sandford :)
We need to get this Dissident in our Ranks rooted out, so we can get on with our preparations to win village of the year again.

Ahh, I'm glad to be back with you all, so who do we lynch?
...you had a sex change for the greater good? How does your sex change make our wonderful village more beautiful? I think you looked better as a woman!

As for whom to lynch: preferrably the CL. Are you the CL? Sage was under a bit of suspicion, when she decided to turn into you.

avatar
flubbucket: You all should really lynch me now, I'm the obvious Day One.
Well, you ARE the obvious fallback solution - with no substance behind your posts. But choosing the fallback-solution isn't going to happen without very concrete time pressure. And judging from the past, we will lynch one of the most actively participating players anyhow.

Well, I'm obviously better looking now!

Nope. She was just a bit busy with the Operation and growing all that hair everywhere, no time for leading a cult. But now I'm back, let's get this Dissident!
@HSL Going by memory I’d say, week was a bit busy so I couldn’t do a reread during. I should be able to do a proper reread and post my findings in a few hours.
avatar
HypersomniacLive: Does this mean that you believe him?
avatar
dedoporno: Not really. Still think that reads more like a rather weak reach than anything else. It is possible I actually read it wrong, of course, but so far it doesn't feel like it. Either way, I believe that particular line of questioning has been drained.

avatar
HypersomniacLive: And next time, you may want to try Sithonia; quite different and more beautiful than Kassandra, imo.
avatar
dedoporno: I've been there, it's very nice indeed. We're going to Kassandra mostly because it's the closest destination of the three lanes of Halkidiki.

avatar
trentonlf: I don’t want a claim from anyone, I want us to work together to figure out who is the most likely option to be CL and lynch them. The more time we have to do that the better.
avatar
dedoporno: Isn't that what we or at least most of us are trying to do? Almost everyone is pushing towards someone for whatever reason. Voting aggressively will only result in an earlier claim on D1, which yes, gives us something more substantial to work with, but then again you say that's not your goal. I'm on board with working together, but can you provide some example on what you would like us as a group to do that doesn't have work towards a claim?
IMO no. Other than bookwyrm everyone else seems to be just talking a lot and not much else. It feels more like people standing around debating and accusing one another without ever doing anything about it. My goal is never to get a claim from anyone when I vote them. I vote someone because I find them to be behaving in a scummy manner or I want to get a response from them to better gauge their behavior.

I also sadly think my third possible CL choice might be right. I’ve gone back over your posts several times, and on the surface they seem to be town motivated, but the tone I’m getting when I put them all together is someone trying to appear townie and helpful without making any waves.

Thank you :) I'm glad I got the chance. I was on the fence about it during sign up but decided against playing but when I saw yesterday that a replacement was needed, I thought, what the hell, it'll be fun and it's supposed to be a relatively short game anyway.
Now I'm glad to be in game and constantly thinking about what to do to help win this thing and stamp out this new cult. Some kind of Canary would be very helpful to see if somebody has been turned but I'm at a loss at how to implement something like that. I thought just now that the rules #19 and #19a would be helpful there, and maybe a turned member couldn't start a roll call when one was still underway but on re-reading the rules, there doesn't seem to be any restriction for cultists about starting roll calls or answering them. Shame really :/

Hey, krypsyn. Thanks :) Love the new vote count posts of yours. Really helpful and comprehensive. Are they automated or all manual labour?

Thanks; I was planning to ask for opinions during Night 1 (when it would be less of a distraction), since I was mildly curious how people would like it. I just keep a text file open, update it manually as I read through the thread, then copy/paste it when needed.

Ahh, I see. Well I like it very much. I asked about automation because I was thinking about making a small python programm searching through the posts for "The Greater Good" and making flubs Tallie (that a word - well List with all Roll Calls and answers) real. But since I'm a bloody noob with this, I don't know if I'll succeed but I do know it would be way faster to just use a text file and go through each post by hand ;)
Anyway should I succeed you can look at the code and see if that would be something that could be used for automatic vote counts aswell. I've been looking at python + beatifulsoup4 (for html parsing)
Hey mchack, nice to have you in a game again.

mchack: As for the claiming, I wouldn't know what claiming anything would help anyone anyhow (at least on day1)?
That's a different topic. I'm trying to see what Trent is pushing for. Most people talk and analyse to different extents how others act/react to pick some who is more suspect than the rest and have them as their vote. That is already happening more or less. On top of that Wyrm hass his nightly plan, so I'd say he is more interested in surviving among other things so he can work with whatever results he achieved (if he is Town, anyway). Either way, most people are doing what they to end up with something to work with and base their vote on. Trent keeps on insisting we are not working together - I'm asking how to do that exactly on D1 unless we are gunning for a claim. Yeah, the vote is the townie's weapon but I really don't see what's the point of throwing that around (at the time of writing this I see I also got Trent's vote).

avatar
mchack: So day one claiming not good.
For sure. My point was about a forced claim on the verge of a lynch. You know how we end locked on someone a few hours before the day ends, they do some bomb claim and we either lynch them anyway or make a quick turnoaroung on the nick of time, getting a second claim or a flip and so on. This was the type of claim I was referring to, not a voluntarily made on.

Anyway, if you had a chance to catch up, I'm interested to hear in what your thoughts of Wyrm's play are and of Lift. And on anything else you might have on your mind.

I figure the "not making waves" part refers to me not voting anyone yet? Unlike others I don't like the idea of throwing my votes around for the smallest thing I can think of just for the sake of it. I like to be do it when that becomes the proper action for whomever I have in mind. If you think voting half the players (and I say that quite literary) is the way to make waves, then that's your prerogative. Then again, there is something I told HSL in the serial killer's game about how trying too hard sometimes can also not be the best course of action, especially when it doesn't come from a town's mindset.

dedoporno: Anyway, if you had a chance to catch up, I'm interested to hear in what your thoughts of Wyrm's play are and of Lift. And on anything else you might have on your mind.
Sure, uhm, I've been a bit distracted trying to learn python while playing ;) but about wyrm I think everything is possible:
Let us assume all possible Powerroles of the Cult C9 are active:
1. Wyrm is the Inquisitor: he has a 25% chance of getting a successful read on the morning of day 2 (CL or the one being turned at night) That's nice, problem is he can't really be trusted then because it might be him been turned unless he's protected. And that we only know if the Alarmist outs himself but that would be bad in itself because he's the definite next target then. Even if he presents a successful read which is proven by lynching the named one it could be him bussing his CL to stay alive. Next day again nothing is sure yet again since he could be turned second night, too. So only lynching him would make it clear but then loose us a power role
2. Wyrm is the Alarmist: now that's plain silly, isn't it? why out himself if he's got nothing to tell us and can't self protect?
3. Wyrm is the Cult Recruiter: Bold play but as said by others might be worth a try to get to day 3 and as said above he could even present "successful reads" by bussing his recruits.
4. Wyrm is a simple Townie: Well since after this play we'll have to lynch him someday to make sure he isn't the cult leader, it's not really a Town move then, is it? Maybe it's worth it for getting the CLs attention to himself but I'm not sure that's worth a mis-lynch.

So I dunno really. Won't vote for him Today I think, because he might give us a cultist to lynch tomorrow but if not, I think I might vote for him tomorrow.

As for lift: gotta do some re-reading first.
After having done a reread I’ve found that lift’s actions to resemble casting shade over other players - initially with sage over her pointing that a CL would try to be a bit hiding in plain sight thingy which was kinda obvious, then with bookwyrm especially post 174 where he cast shade on Trent as well. The part where he says
If you want your play explained, explain it. Don't expect others to do it for you.
If you DON'T want your play explained, don't explain it - and don't expect others to explain it either.
doesn’t make sense to me at all, especially the second line. It feels like flimsy logic at best if he is town and trying to hide motives if he is the CL. I was willing to give him the benefit of doubt regarding bookwyrm since his play is a bit weird to say the least but other points make it hard to do that.
Rereading HSL I guess I got those vibes because I felt he wasn’t posting as much as I recall him doing in previous games but I didn’t see scumness which jumps at you in his posts though.
Trent seems alright-ish since the scum trent I’ve seen to be less aggressive, more experienced players could correct me.
flub is someone I can’t decipher even after the reread, saw nothing good but nothing particularly damning as well.
Dedo seems alright-ish as well but kinda fits what trent said in 199, not enough to warrant a lynch though.

Mchack has been excluded since I can’t read sage and hold that on him.
@mchack Welcome aboard mate!

I think I did a poor job with the way I asked. I was more interested in what do you think about their interaction one's reaction to the other.

mchack: 3. Wyrm is the Cult Recruiter: Bold play but as said by others might be worth a try to get to day 3 and as said above he could even present "successful reads" by bussing his recruits.
Ha! I had to re-visit the mafiascum setup page to check this but I think it's the first time someone referred to the role as a Cult Recruiter (this is actually the correct role name and not a Cult Leader/CL).

LOL, you know as well as I do that a vote has nothing to do with causing waves. A vote is a way of saying who you think scum is, and you can never over use your vote when you have town's interest in hand and I assure you that's what I have in hand.

I just went and ISO'd you again and my opinion has not changed. Could I have it wrong, sure that's the nature of the game to get it wrong. Do I think I'm wrong, no I always go with the premise that I'm right because second guessing one's self will lead to being wrong more than right.

I already said who I thought it might be, but things changed in the meantime and Sage asked for a sub. Voting mchack as he was Sage is plain silly without seeing how he perceives the game. Voting for Lift just because I have a reason to give my other top suspect a bit of time is equally unreasonable.

avatar
trentonlf: I just went and ISO'd you again and my opinion has not changed.
That's the last thing I expect to happen. If your opinion did actually change between 2 rereads I would have been adding you to that list as well.

trentonlf: Do I think I'm wrong, no I always go with the premise that I'm right because second guessing one's self will lead to being wrong more than right.
You always presume you're right, yet you keep jumping from player to player. If you do three more (and you're Town) you'll have a 100% guarantee that you were correct at least once.

I would have thought that you are looking for where something might stick but I don't really think you are the CL.
