This has been driving me crazy for years.

* The other side can only hear me very low while using the new Skype.
* Problem is with both Windows and Linux skype versions 8.10.0.4
* My mic works fine with anything else, including Skype for the web.
* I had been using Skype 4.3 for Linux as a workaround so far but I guess Microsoft disabled that service. 4.3 no longer works.
* I had exactly the same problem with new Skype for Linux BETA 5.xxx
* I have had this problem with skype on windows for over 2 years.

I am using Skype for the web for voice chat atm but I'd like to solve that mystery. My researches in the last 2 years were all in vain.

Any Suggestions? But please keep those in mind.
* My Microphone is working with anything else with excellent quality both on Win7 and Linux Mint.
* I updated my Realtek drivers to the latest version for windows. I do not know how to do that on Linux.
* Making a test call yields the same result. I can barely hear myself.

Thanks
Engin.

I had a similar problem with Skype at work this week (and a few times in the past). The solution was extremely simple: in the Settings menu, there is an Audio submenu that allows to set the input audio volume of your microphone. Skype likes to reset it to a low value (maybe it is related to software updates, I am not sure), so I just set it to the maximum and my colleague was able to hear me again without problems. Worth a try?

Thank you but unfortunately I do not have such option in Linux client. I have an extra Audio$Video Settings section but there is no adjustment for mic there. I may test this when I am on windows again. However, I managed to amply my voice with some adjustments on linux sound type setting it to 153% and now I can hear my voice but in a very bad quality, so I think it is an ALSA plugin issue rather than sound volume.
Give up entirely, throw Skype in the garbage where it belongs and behold yourself the new face of web chat and video/audio calls:

Discord.

It has proper Linux support, it can be tried without signing up for it, and can connect to your favorite gaming sites.

I'm running it on Fedora and it runs smoothly. Behold the features!

There's even 3 Discord groups for GOG on there!

I already have Discord and I totally agree with everything you said. I would toss Skype to toilet and flush years ago. Unfortunatly, the people I am working with only use Skype. So I need to solve that problem.

Sorry. I gave up on Skype eons ago. My only advice would be to convince them to join the dark side.
