Note that these games are Strategy RPGs; there's not much non-combat gameplay, and the combat gameplsy plays like a turn-based strategy game (complete with a grid), except that each unit you can field is a character who can earn experience points, level up, and keep those gains into the next battle.
These games also have a nice job/ability system, where you can change jobs (though Fell Seal calls them "classes"), and then equip abilities from other jobs that you've previously learned, leading to quite a variety of ways to set up a unit.
(For clarity, Final Fantasy 5 is *not* an SRPG; however, it actually does have a similar job/ability system.)
