Sorry if there's already a thread about it, but I just stumbled over this game on the Humble store.

https://www.humblebundle.com/store/the-warlock-of-firetop-mountain

"The Warlock of Firetop Mountain is a tabletop adventure come to life! This fantasy solo RPG combines unique, simultaneous turn-based combat with a journey that changes based on each figurine you take into Firetop Mountain! Which hero will you take into Zagor's lair THIS time?

The original 1982 Fighting Fantasy paperback by Ian Livingstone and Steve Jackson has been transformed into an epic domain, with new areas to explore, characters to meet, and of course, monsters to slay! Zagor's home builds right before your eyes as you travel deep into the belly of the mountain.

Each character has their own motivations for being in Firetop Mountain, changing the way the gamebook is written and choices presented. Combat is fought using the digital miniatures in a simultaneous, real-time system called GridBluff, and the game includes over 100 unique hero and monster figurines to discover."

It looks pretty interesting. Does anyone here know if there's a chance of a GOG release?

Edit: Please vote for the game on the Wishlist.

Update: I've just contacted the devs and received this response:

"Sadly it won't be coming to GOG at the moment. We've approached GOG a few times to try and sell our titles through them, but they've turned us down each time. We're going to reach out to them again about this in the future, but as of today and the immediate future I would suggest going via Humble."

That sounds familiar. GOG curation at its best once again? Maybe there's hope yet, but feel free to prepare the torches and pitchforks.

If all else fails, the Humble version ( linked above ) seems to be DRM-free, so there's that.

GOG Y U NO WANTZ MY MONEYZ??!

UPDATE: Felt like giving this old thread a little bump, because the game is currently discounted 50% off over at Humble. I've had my eye on it ever since I originally made this post, and finally decided to buy a copy.

So far I've only played for a few hours, but I feel it's worth the ~10 bucks they're currently asking for it. It's very nicely polished, and seems to have a lot of content. The game also has some included bonus content, such as a rather elaborate history of the Fighting Fantasy franchise, and it even has achievements/optional challenges directly built into the game. That's right, it's possible to provide such features without additional client programs -- who'd have thunk, huh?

For those wondering about Humble's DRM-free version: The game is provided as a direct download from Humble's servers. It comes in the form of a ZIP file of some ~700 MB, and the fully uncompressed folder is about twice as large. I'm not sure about the advantages or disadvantages compared to GOG's installers, but it works fine for me, and I guess it's more portable than conventional installations, and could quickly be moved to other devices. In fact, I haven't tried it yet, but it seems like it would work well on a tablet, due to the simple controls and fairly low hardware requirements.

Some critique: The combat system does its job, but is fairly minimalistic, compared to real tactical RPGs. Also, the expansion pack/DLC for the game isn't being offered on Humble. Currently the only legal way to obtain it for the DRM-free version is to contact the devs via e-mail, and purchase the unlock code directly from them.

For those who don't mind Steam, a Steam version of the game is included in the Humble purchase, and the DLC is available as a separate purchase there. ( For about 5 bucks. ) Personally I'll finish the main game content, and then decide whether I'm still interested in the DLC, and how to buy it.

The game should be discounted for about 3 more days!

Looks interesting. I first learned about it on rpgwatch.com. While I do not know if a GoG release is planned, I did vote for it here

Voted. Watching on TWITCH and it looks awesome.
The name brings back memories. Hell yeah, f**kin warlocks.

I thought it was a heroes quest expansion, choose your own adventure novel of course.

Reminds me of Deathtrap Dungeon, which reminds me of Demon's Souls, which nailed it.

Demon's Souls. <3

By the way, I just posted a ( somewhat sad ) update regarding this game.
Yeh I remember reading GoG turned them down. And I couldn't believe it.

Its a game that embodies GoG's core customers, it looks polished and isn't yet another pixel art retro clone.

Really, I'd love to see a blue post explaining the logic behind this one.

Apparently they haven't submitted this particular game yet, and it doesn't sound like they have much interest in doing so, since they've been rejected several times in the past.

I get the impression GOG has burned too many bridges, to the point where many devs won't even bother contacting them about a release. And let's be realistic here, GOG needs those devs more than they need GOG -- at least while Steam is still the uncontested leader in digital distribution of games. I think it's really up to them to reach out and show that we want games like those here. Meanwhile they keep releasing all those games of, let's say... questionable subject and quality.

And I agree, a game like this just seems perfect for GOG's library and audience!

Dumb gog.

All these "your own adventure" books WERE good (awesome) old games, on paper !

Translating them into digital form, either directly (as this Tin Man company mostly does) or semi-directly (like the Sorcery games, by Inkle) or in new form as with this specific game, is important, precious, fun, and should be encouraged.

I would buy them all. They all deserve to be here. There are a good old gamer's delight, and should delight good new gamers aswell.

Rejecting them is retarded (especially after filling a movie section with old school rpg hommage videos).

(By the way : https://www.gog.com/wishlist/games/sorcery )

First of all: I would like to see those games here, they surely deserve to be here and your reasoning is very good.

The only thing is that apparently digital version doesn’t work for me. I am not sure why. I tried Sorcery! on my mobile, had some fun but nothing really spectacular. I thought that that I jus didn't enjoy such games anymore but no it wasn't that. I did try the original Sorcery! book and man I had a blast with it. So apparently I simply prefer the original version and digital is not working for me. It doesn't change the fact that I still believe these games should be here

Oh well. I had played first two first Sorcery on android, and I adored them, for the faithfulness to the book's design, for the added tabletop feel, for the convenient mapping/backtracking system... It worked very well for me. Was the balance I needed.

Maybe I don't realise how narrow a niche I inhabitate.

(Not to mention that the french editions of these books used the cheapest shittiest glue ever. Playing them now feels less like flipping a book's pages than shuffling through a pile of paper. Looking forward to get rid of that issue.)

Because it's not a pixelated, proceduraly generated zombie survival game.

And people don't get why I'm pissed at GOG's "curation".

Lucky there is a DRM free version on Humble, I'll just get it there.
