Three hours full of pirates, zombies, and neon-lit spaceships.

Hey there, planet-plunderers! Have your tried Space Pirates and Zombies 2 yet?
By all accounts, it's a more than worthy successor to the addictively entertaining SPAZ. Developers MinMax Games expanded upon the things that made the original so popular while also taking quite a few risks in order to offer an experience that feels both refreshingly different and comfortably familiar at the same time.

In fact, that's what DarkSaber2k tried to establish by playing a little bit of SPAZ and a whole lot of SPAZ 2 during his almost-three-hour Twitch stream the other day.
Go ahead and give it a watch - just beware of all the colorful space debris.

outstarwalker: Wait, it isn't ethical for GOG to promote a game being sold on GOG or it isn't ethical for GOG to promote official GOG.com's Twitch channel? I'm trying to understand your point of view here.
avatar
nu-R421: To some degree both. Neutrality means that you don't favor specific products or people. Doing it shows they are not focusing on neutrality, fairness and equality.

There are tons of streamers out there "promoting" GOG. Even I recommend it to friends. Stuff like that always shows me it's just a fake mask to some degree though. It's a marketing schmeme to justify A) the prices B) the limited offerings and C) to really set GOG apart and thus keep it afloat.

Keep in mind all other platforms died. For example Desura, GFWL. Only publisher platforms are still around and of course the OS stores (windows store, ubuntu etc..

So yeah, fanboys can rate this negative but the point still stands. Not only is it highly selective, unattractive and thus spammy to many, it's also unjust in regards to their theme of equality.
It is clearly promotional and that makes you think why is it this product and streamer. Was money involved? What are the details behind it? If I were an indie dev, how could I get a promo like this on GOG? You see, the more you look into it the more you have to question it.
That's way much clearer, thanks! Let me explain then! :)
GOG.com has its official Twitch channel that operates for 3 years now. I'm one of the streamers on that channel and also I'm hired by GOG to take care both for the channel and for contacts with influencers. GOG.com Twitch channel is basically a collective of small and growing volounteer streamers that dig the idea of DRM-free gaming and want to showcase it. We do promote streamers outside of our StreamTeam as well, naturally - we have partnership program, every day we host other streamers on GOG channel and we're super up to add more valuable people to our team.

As our StreamTeam showcases GOG.com products every day in a TV-like manner, it's a great marketing for developers releasing games on GOG and they often actively ask if stream is going to happen when we talk about release. We never say no to that and we keep a track to make sure we cover all new releases, if possible time-wise.

This newspost is very vague, but story behind it is simple - we received a feedback that a lot of people want to know what's the difference in between SPAZ 1 and SPAZ 2. I got contacted by other GOG employees asking me if there's a way we could explain it to our audience, and so we decided to make a stream where DarkSaber covers both of these games (we usually play one game per stream) and explains the difference. He did it and so it landed here - the plan was to show people a handy manual of differences between versions, not to promote something non-GOG related :)

Most of our streamers are not "yellers" (I'm probably the worst one!) and a lot of them don't use webcams as well. If you want to give it a chance, check out Saber's stream above, he's almost universally liked for his approach to explaining games and voice. Same goes with Kilgore (https://go.twitch.tv/videos/200244304) and Flaose (https://go.twitch.tv/videos/187371274) among many.

Painted_Doll: Come on . Can't you find and promote a streamer who really deserves our attention ?

I too wish GOG would promote streamers with no face, voice or identifying features of any sort. It makes me sad that the faceless and voiceless are so under-represented in 2017 of all years.

EDIT: My bad, I forgot that Megapiemanphd streams on the GOG twitch channel. He never uses a webcam and in the past has "forgotten" his mic wasn't on and done entire streams of just gameplay. Personally I think that was his way of protesting the current political climate on Twitch without losing access to a platform where he can make change. If you're reading this Pie, keep fighting the good fight, one day we'll burn your mic together.

Who is DarkSaber2k and why should I care? I do like SPAZ though

darksaber is bae, go home ya butts!
Edit: Just in case this wasn't clear, the link in the OP leads to a VOD on the GOGcom Twitch channel where the stream took place. It did not take place on DarkSaber2k's personal channel.

Hi there, I'm Piranjade of the GOG Stream Team! I'm one of the volunteer streamers.
You are right, the GOGcom Twitch channel does favour specific products - games sold on GOG. In that regard the channel is not neutral or fair for example towards games sold on Uplay, consoles etc.

When it comes to why a certain streamer on GOGcom twitch chooses a certain game to stream, it's mostly because they like that game and are excited about it.
I, for example, don't enjoy horror games and therefore nearly never stream them.
Other streamers on the team enjoy those games though (and are more knowledgeable about them) and will choose to stream those.

Yes, the GOGcom Twitch channel is marketing GOG and I, personally, hope very much that GOG does more than just stay afloat.
I can't really comment on prices or GOG's catalogue as I a) have nothing to do with it and b) my milleage and taste in games might vary.

We try to cover as many GOG releases as possible as well as highlighting games from sale or just personal favourites and hidden gems.
We have a public schedule that we try to keep up-to-date:

There is nothing to hide here.

Like I said before, this game is one among many we present on stream. I think we had about 20 different games on stream this week.
Except for Outstar, who is employed by GOG, we streamer are volunteers.
The channel does offer subscriptions (but there are no subscriber-only streams) and all revenue from subs and ads on this channel are equally distributed through active Stream Team members. GOG.com doesn't take a cut.

Outstar outlined devs asking for streams, so I have nothing to add to that.

If you have more questions, just let us know!
Or maybe even visit the channel once! We have a pretty awesome community on there and new faces are always welcome! https://www.twitch.tv/gogcom

Also, thank you for your questions and criticism.
It's easy to forget that things might look different for people who are not acquainted with the GOGcom Twitch channel.

LOL. At no point have I ever seen GOG boast of their "neutrality", whatever the hell that would mean with regards to a game store. (And yes, despite their marketing to the contrary, they are just a game store, not leaders of glorious revolution that doesn't actually exist.) As for "equality" (in the sense that you seem to mean here), they have never, to the best of my knowledge, publicly claimed that they would give equal promotion to all games and/or publishers and/or dev studios. (It would be a nightmare to try to stick to such a policy, given how many games and companies are here.)
Moreover, most devs (and probably many publishers) don't care. There haven't been TONS of stream announcements like this here, but there have, nonetheless, been more than a few, and do you know how many devs of other games have posted to complain about GOG showing favoritism to another company? Zero. Do you know how often I have heard of someone tweeting, "THis Is Bullshit!!! GOG is promoting a Twitch stream of someone elses game, when they never promoted a stream of ours!! How dare they!!!?" Never. I would go so far as to say that only an asshole would be so petty as to insist that nobody else get promoted that way unless he did too, and any dev who thought that way would be far less likely to see money from me.

This has nothing to do with fanboys hating on dissenting opinions, and everything to do with you having very specific personal ethical preferences, and unjustly projecting those on a company which has never given any assurances about living up to standards quite so lofty and particular as yours.
I missed the stream but regardless of who the streamer is/was I look at it as a help function to me the consumer to see how a game plays. many times a stream has sold me on a game that I thought out of my comfort zone, or vice versa, games I would have insta bought showed some gameplay details I found annoying and skipped.

I prefer the volunteer streamers to mega stars actually, they are more like regular folks just playing the game rather than trying to make a proper living from it and all that behind the scenes ad revenue stuff that can become questionable. gog used to regularly promote their stream events on the front page but its taken a back seat for awhile for all the sales promos events i think. might be why it seems an odd one off event now

Damn, I knew something looked weird but couldn't put my finger on it :/
Well, for this one, the explanation about "showing differences between first and second game" is fine with me. Makes sense.

you will be able to at least say you convinced one person (because i usually don't like to speak as if i represent more persons than just myself...)

As i said, though, it would be interesting that some streams would get announcement in future, like those when we can expect someone from the devs to be around like a few streams from outstarwalker i saw, where it was planned to have them and such.
