It seems that you're using an outdated browser. Some things may not work as they should (or don't work at all).
We suggest you upgrade newer and better browser like: Chrome, Firefox, Internet Explorer or Opera

Hello all. First, let me say how much I love the idea of GoG, especially since it's giving me the chance to replay of the games I played as a kid.

Which is why I hate that my first post to be for a problem with the downloader.

For some reason it keeps pausing by itself when I'm downloading. I tried disabling the firewall etc... but after a minute or two of downloading, the download will automatically drop to 0kbs and then pause, despite the pause button in the header still showing as unclicked.

I would really like to know if there is a way to force the downloader to automatically recontinue once it has paused.

This is not normal behaviour. There is some problem with your connection to the server.

Do you see this same behaviour with the "download using browser" method?
Try limiting number of connections to 1. It's under options in Downloader.
Thank you guys for your quick responses.
It is probably my connection, seeing as I get a couple of "request time out" every few minutes, and that could be what's causing the downloader to pause.
I found it weird because it never caused me a problem before (aside from online gaming, but I use another connection for that)

I tried limiting the number of connections before to 1,2, 3, etc... but it still does the same.

With the "download with browser method", I used orbit downloader and it downloaded for about an hour before the download went to 0kbs.

I'll try using downthemall once I get back home.
I have the same problem with the GoG Downloader.

I have tried to change the number of connections to 1 (and other onesd), but it just keeps pausing and refusing to let me resume it.

Any ideas?

Are you using the current version?
I had this problem as well. The game downloads much slower than it should on my internet connection and eventually drops to 0. It will then occasionally spike up a little and the drop down to 0 again. I thought it was my connection but when i switched to the download through browser (firefox) it downloaded just fine.

I upgraded to the current version as part of my troubleshooting but it still was dropping to 0 and getting stuck there.
From your screenshot it looks like you are using an old version. Newest version is here.
I had that issue earlier with it pausing now I can't download any thing bc I am online but my downloader now says error, retrying. and I have the current version.

Yeppers, I had just downloaded it before I started to download Botanicula. It seemed to like stopping and restarting, after a while it finished the download. I'll keep an eye on it when I download more games.
If you're having any issues while downloading with the latest version 3.0.51b (which is available at http://www.gog.com/downloader), send me a PM with some details:

OS version
Browser version
Contents of the logger.log file which can be located at:
C:\Users\USERNAME\AppData\Local\GOG.com (Vista/7)
C:\Documents and Settings\USERNAME\Local Settings\Application Data\GOG.com (XP)

If the file is to large, let me know in the PM, I'll provide an e-mail address.
We'll get it working for you.

I have the same problem as the OP, and instead of opening a new thread with my particular variation of the core dilemma, I better add it here so not to spread the attention of the GOG staff unnecessarily.

THE PROBLEM:
Identical to what PredaNoob describes in her/his post: I start the downloader, a few minutes later, it just pauses itself.
The additional characteristics of my problem are: Recently it freezes during launch (beachball-of-dooming itself); the problem began suddenly for it had been working fine for a very long while.

ATTEMPTED TROUBLESHOOTING:
1) Verified the internet connection was working properly.
Result:
After brief period, it still drops to 0 download speed and pauses.

2) Tried to find out if my Mac's "Energy Saving" settings were interfering with the downloader (e.g. The downloader stops because the display and/or the computer falls asleep).
Result:
I set my computer not to sleep. Among other apps, only the GOG downloader stops working when the display falls asleep. I tried to establish if this was connected and found that it is not. The downloader not always pauses after the display falls asleep.

3) Deleted the "com.gog.downloader.plist" and relaunched the downloader.
Result:
The downloader now freezes on launch every time.

4) Verified version of the downloader.
Downloaded the downloader :) today (Sep, 21, 2013) and re-installed, hoping to fix both problems that way.
Result:
The newest version of the downloader (1.2 build 435) was what I had been using before, and re-installing it plus deleting for a second time the "com.gog.downloader.plist" did not help. The downloader still freezes on launch and has to be force-euthanised.

FINAL NOTES:
I have a Mac crash report in a text file in case it is of use to the GOG technomancers, [s]but don't know how to show it to you (it is too large to paste here and I can only attach pictures)[/s].
I am unable to provide a GOG downloader Error Report because I believe I need to open the downloader first to do so from the preferences.

Thanks in advance for any efforts placed into expunging this bewildering Gremlin.
:)

EDIT (2013/Sep/21):
Hi, I found a way to share the crash report without cluttering this posts. I pasted it in 2 sites where you can go and see it. Take your pick ;)

1) Hey Paste It!

2) Paste Bin

You'd be better off posting in the GOG.com Downloader (Windows & Mac client) discussion thread where's constant active involvement of GOG support.

OK, I'll do that then. Thanks for the idea.
I thought that since the problem described in this post is still unresolved that the GOG mods would be checking any updates made to it. Probably that is not so.
