Warning: May contain crystal skulls!

La Mulana, a challenging free-form platformer in ancient Mayan ruins, is now available on GOG.com for only $9.99. That's 33% off the regular price until Thursday, October 11 at 10:59 AM GMT.

The ancient Mayan city of La-Mulana is said to hold innumerous secrets. The mysterious tribe guarding it from the outside world claims that the ancient knowledge locked within the forgotten tombs holds the key to understanding the purpose and origin of life itself. A daring young archeologist by the name of Lameza Kosugi--an Indiana Jones lookalike with Japanese roots--takes on the quest to unravel the mystery of the foreboding ruins. With his trusty whip (standard archeology-issue) and a vintage "Mobile Super X" laptop, he ventures into the unknown. Some say that he might be the chosen one. Otherwise the tribe of protectors wouldn't let him go anywhere near the ruins. True question remains: does he really have what it takes to face the treacherous traps, menacing monsters, and gigantic guardians of La-Mulana?

The original low-res version of La Mulana met with critical acclaim as one of the most difficult and elaborate indie platformers of the 2000s. Its high-res remake delivers the same challenge and scale but this time with colorful pixel-art graphics your eyes can feast upon. Gamers worldwide fell in love with La-Mulana's free-form archeological action/exploration gameplay. Now it's your turn to put on an adventurer's hat, grab that handy whip, and set off for the huge Mayan ruins, that hold the secret of the origin of life on Earth. Don't miss out on one of the greatest challenges for the fans of platformer genre!

Search every corner of the ancient ruins, reach seemingly unreachable platforms, and defeat many fearsome guardians to uncover the secret of La Mulana, for the launch promo price of only $9.99!

Goatbrush: Wow I was looking at this recently, wasn't expecting to see it here. The reviews I read compare it heavily to Symphony of the Night - to those who already own it, does it really compare?
The platforming is most similar to Symphony of the Night, but the puzzles found throughout the game are more similar to Zelda, though some can be considerably more difficult.
While the challenge in this game is a plus the check points are way too thin. Repeating parts you can do blindfolded just because you fail at the end is not fun. :(

Cool, thanks. Sounds like fun.
I played the original through a couple times, and finished the bonus area too. I don't think I've ever gotten really bored with the game, though this one specific timed puzzle in the game was pretty infuriating. It would be pretty cool to try out the new enemies, and everything that they've changed in the game. It's just too bad it doesn't work in Linux. I also bought this from Playtism and now again here... Well, at least they deserve the support.

tburger: Protagonist looks similar to Rick Dangerous :-P

I'm certain it will land on my shelf at certain moment but not before I have all classics I want from GOG.

Kunovski: and also like Spelunky... the indie developers nowadays, no originality :D
This predates Spelunky by five years, and the developer specifically cited La-Mulana as an inspiration for Spelunky, not the other way around. Unless you're claiming they used time travel?

oh not at all my friend, all I'm saying is there are lots of indie 2D platformers now that all look really alike :)
Neato. Wishlisted. Was looking for a decent platformer (not too many of those decent on pc these days)
Buying some "Sierravision" titles was enough of a draw, but LM makes it a transaction now instead of tomorrow. :)
Thanks for the launch promo too. $10 is what I wanted to pay, since I'm also paying for the soundtrack disc by disc!
Argh, got it 5 days ago from another store. T_T I'll buy it again on GOG to have it on my shelve but only when it goes on sale one day.
Got it yesterday from GOG. Mmmmm, like playing Montezuma on Atari all this years ago. Good memories, good memories.
