Disable "view profile" function for customers who care for their privacy! completed
Isn't this done already?
also forgot to mention gog most likely never checks gog wishlist, they probably avoid it :D
proabably the funniest thing is when you sign up to make account you agreed to any changes and upcoming changes.
"I did NOT give my consent to have a public profile and I do not want to share any information about my profile "
you agreed when you made a account... it's called Terms of service which no one reads.
Looks like GOG removed the last vestiges of profiles for those who have them disabled. The feed and profile links are gone from the menu and clicking on your account name takes you to your library now instead of a 404 page.
Thanks for this.
This feature already exist since months, and is quite easy to found.
So this request should be marked as "granted", but for some reason they forgot to.
feature already exists but I agree with some that the default should be off.
Some people may be unaware of what they are sharing.
What is really the problem here? So they can see your tag and how much/what you have played. Though I didn't even notice when this was setup either. Probably cause I don't bother about it, much like on steam.
This is just rediculous and I cant believe GOG actually did this request immediately and updated the terms of service. I dont care about privacy and I dont want to be blocked looking at a users profile. So many triggered idiots thinking its the end of the world because they lack privacy online and chimping out because a random person was looking at their information. At least I am able to get free DRM games though.
Thank you RainbowDragon.
Just turn your profile off at: www.gog.com/account/settings/privacy
I agree that function 'profile enabled' should be by default turned off.
No one but me is allowed to publish my Profile, gog.com!
I totally support this request!
Profile should have been made private by default! Instead of this you've shown every user profile without their acknowledgment. It's a very bad move!
A few hours ago gog updated the privacy options in our account settings and we now can finally turn our profiles on or off: www.gog.com/news/introducing_gog_profiles
I would like to say THANK YOU all for voting here this request was an immense success and the outcome was the best solution for all customers of gog: those who like the new profiles may continue to use them and everyone else can now turn them off. Thank you!
I would Like to opt out of this "profile feature". It stinks of collecting userdata to make a profit. I neither agreed to that nor will I.
I cannot see your profile, just a 404 page Mav. So, this specific request is fulfilled I guess, just the links need cleaning up. I would have preferred an actual apology to go with it instead of the PR speak they used though.
More importantly, AFAIK the profiles are still enabled and set to the most open privacy settings by default. There's already a feature wish for that here: www.gog.com/wishlist/site/set_all_privacyrelated_options_to_most_secure_by_default
I have an option to completely disable the profile in my privacy settings.
If disabled, when I trying to open it, all I get is a 404 error page.
Can anyone of you still view my profile?
If not, it seems the request is at least partially done. Menus still contain links to feed and profile though.
That function should be a given. Why GOG, why?
So many whiners in this community good god.
Yeah. For letting every loser pry in your profile/stats/etc, there is steam. GOG was supposed to not only NOT become steam and adopt client, but also, let users keep their stuff to themselves!
GOG, you took a wrong turn, somewhere! And wtf is the deal with new agreements, anyway?
I'm sorry but the crying about this very basic feature, is ridiculous. There is hardly anything on these profiles, at all. Oh no, they can see your achievements, games and name! The horror! I have an idea how you guys can be SUPER DUPER private. Your name won't even show up on the forums or GOG at all. Stop posting, then request to have your account deleted. Boom, you're a ghost.
QUOTE: GOG support is having a laugh: “Thank you for sharing your concerns. We have nothing to communicate at this point, but we have forwarded your feedback to the appropriate department. We apologize for the inconvenience.”
Ah yes. The Department of Middle-Finger Customer Support. I know thee well. :(((((
I love the profiles, they are great gog.com but the privacy options have to improve. It is a pity the little concern that users have with issues such as privacy, or 700 votes for such an important issue.
I do not doubt that the achievements or the profiles can be a success but I also think that privacy should go hand in hand with that success for the users who do it.
Signed, too. How could they do this without prior consent?
I'd like to be able to disable my profile completely - so that it doesn't exist, and there are no references to it in the menus. For people who dislike that crap, it is a pain. I used to click on my name to see my games - now I click on my name and it takes me to a useless profile I don't want to see. Basic things take longer now (in the same way that I don't use GOG Galaxy, yet have to go into a sub-menu that doesn't have it infesting the installers, whereas I didn't used to have to do that). By all means, spend time and money on features if you want, GOG - but let those who will never use them have a way of disabling it so they get the defaults they want, such as Galaxy-free installers by default, and single click to get to our games.
this. I dont care about it that much, since I use separate accounts for forum and purchases. But its pretty bs - even steam has ability to hide profile information from public
@SpiderFighter people didn't even read the private policy in the first place when signing up to use gog, all this was is a drm-free store
@MariusHispano: There were 1,275 votes for the most popular of these features (the public profiles) on the day the update rolled out - that's hardly "thousands". I'd also like to know how you measure success when every news article I've read about the update mentions the lack in privacy. (Not counting blogs that just regurgitated GOG's official statement.)
Please note that I'm _not_ against the update itself. I just think the way it was implemented (everything Opt-out instead of Opt-in, without the option to hide all the statistics, and "private" data still showing up in public sections friend's profiles...) was a disaster.
You might not know about this but there was an official (and some might argue 'hidden') "mentioning"* of the new privacy options 4 days before the update went life. One of the main topics in that thread was about how the default option should be set to private instead of public, since not many users scan the forums for that kind of thread and far less log in every day.
This whole people getting angry deal could have been toned down to people publicly saying that that feature was not for them... They had our feedback before this thing blew up and consciously ignored it.
And just because it sometimes hard to tell online: I have no hard feeling towards you. You spoke out our mind (as you should be free to do) and stayed on topic. If this affair isn't a break of 'your' trust in GOG you should not feel obligated to mistrust them, just because others said 'they' lost faith in GOG.

Just chiming in to support this. If GOG does not want GDPR-related problems, they should definitely tighten the privacy options. Continued sharing of even basic statistics would be a huge breach of trust.
Voted!
And I may add, that I have no problem with GOG's new profiles in general.
It's the fact, that I can't choose to opt out of it completely, that irks me.
Heck, I'd have no problem, if I could set my profile to "fully private", and everyone who checks into it, sees my avatar, maybe my background picture (if I ever choose top set one up), and the message "This user's profile is set to private!"
No problem from my side with that.
But GOG deciding over my head, what data gets made public for everyone, is a huuuge no-no.
OMG! OMG! OMG! I didn't notice this profile feature going off. That's soooooooo damn nice. Good job GOG. But on the other hand, I agree, people should have the option to keep their privacy.
The profiles are a great idea that are having a great success, as well as the achievements or the cloud save. We are thousands of users who have asked for years. I hope that in the future they will continue to improve and add other options as points in the achievements. But I also think that privacy options should be improved and although it seems that they are a small group of users who ask them I think it is an issue that affects us all and that is why gog.com should give the possibility of hiding their data to the user that I want it as it is also done in steam.
Voted. This is quite a big step away from what I would expect from GOG. Either please honor your history and community, or make a
statement about where you're now heading.
Voted. The profile, if it exists at all, should be opt-in, and private should mean private / hidden. Gog should also stop showing a green light when members are online. I don't use Galaxy, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram etc because of privacy concerns, next it will be Gog gone.
Voted. GoG profile was bad idea at all. At least from my scope of view.
Censored games and now stealing privacy? Come on! STAHP >:-/
While I myself welcome the new profiles feature I think it should be completely optional and should have been opt-in from the start.
I'm voting for this even though I welcome the new profiles. Should definitely be an option to disable profiles for those who don't want them.
Wish I could vote more than once. GOG, please let me totally hide my profile like I can on Steam. If you truly want to become like Steam, then offer the same choices. Until then my wallet is closed.
GOG support is having a laugh: “Thank you for sharing your concerns. We have nothing to communicate at this point, but we have forwarded your feedback to the appropriate department. We apologize for the inconvenience.”
Agreed, stop selling my data.
People need to start paying attention. The "privacy" options do NOT make your profile completely private; hence this wishlist. Also, even if you opt out, any of your friends' profiles who are set to public will STILL display YOUR name, even though you've told Gog NOT to. With Steam, it's one click and your profile (minus your username) is hidden, period. Gog needs to fix this.
No, by default the profile can be seen by all gog.com users (see the wish "Set all privacy-related options to most secure by default" for changing that), and the new privacy options were rolled out on Friday for a full release of the profiles on Monday; not exactly a lot of time to prepare...
You know, that by default the profile is seeable only by friends, and the option to make it private is on gog since like, a week before the profiles were turned on?
@Tuknar - No, that doesn't cut it; see posts #276, #469 and #567 in the announcement thread of profiles.
THE OPTION IS ALREADY THERE IN ACCOUNT->PRIVACY SETTINGS. YOU CAN CUSTOMIZE WHAT YOU WANT TO SHARE ABOUT YOUR GOG PROFILE THERE. www.gog.com/account/settings/privacy
I'M TYPING THIS IN CAPS SO THAT EVERYONE CAN SEE THIS!
Where is the "delete profile" button? And why is this bug (not feature) enabled by default?
It's an alright feature for those who want it, but not for the rest of us. Not everyone is a social butterfly. In fact, I believe most of the old-timers here are not (hence why singleplayer is much more valued than multiplayer in this store).
The fact Gog doesn't know or care for this is unspeakably disrespectful!
What a sh*tshow ...
