Roll back to the old design
I only gave a +1 because when I load gog the website makes my computer heat up to nuclear levels. Maybe they could just make a "gentle" version that lets you do everything the same but isn't so intense on the computer?
Old design - Rest in peace... I love you very much, recall you in my mind and smile with the best memories of you, hope You are in a better place!!!
Yes, the new website is trash. I'm not sure what they changed on the back end outside of the visuals but it runs like garbage now on my machine when it ran flawless before and there's been no changes to my browser or add-ons during this time.
It literally takes 30 seconds for the username/password box to load now when the "login" button in the top header is clicked. There’s also times when the “login” button does not appear at all on certain pages.
I contacted GOG support regarding the problem and they wanted me to be their guinea pig and install a different browser to trouble shoot the issue for them. Why the hell would I do this and add a bunch of unnecessary junk files to my system and unneeded registry entries when it was never a problem prior to the website change? This clearly indicates it's a problem they created during the changes and nothing has been done about it.
GOG is going backwards with this new buggy/poorly optimized design.
Shake my head…
I wish I could retract my vote because rolling back to the old design is too harsh. It's a sad fact that websites need to change in order to be successful, even if those changes result in less functionality.
The website works well. I just have some feedback the team might or might have time to consider.
1. Before the fairly recent website upgrade, when looking at the store page for a game I could easily start one of the videos about it and then scroll down the page to read the reviews and description and pop back up to the video if it sounded interesting. It was a good way of skipping the intros. Now the video dominates the page and I can't do that without dealing with extra tabs.
2. On the front page, the most featured game ads that scroll by are great. I love that there are controls to skip to the previous and next ads. But I wish the current ad would stay on the screen if those buttons were clicked. It's just such a pain to see an interesting ad and have to keep clicking back to it to try to finish reading it. If someone navigates to one of the ads, it really should pause and stay on that ad.
3. I don't like the play-on-hover videos. Just too much noise and distraction. Anything that involves video or sound should require a click.
Nothing huge here. Just a little hopefully constructive feedback.
I love GoG and thank you so much for all that you and the company does!
I really miss sorting by release year :(
Agreed. It's a shame the way UI and webdesign is going. Fat and bloated design at the cost of practicality and speed (as well as looks). It's just nonsensical.
It took me fifteen minutes to find how to login in this new layout. support.gog.com/hc/en-us/articles/212185089-I-cannot-log-in-What-can-I-do- DOES NOT supply a hyperlink to the login page. I had to start a new forum thread in order to be prompted to login. Buttons are now HUGE as if they are scaled to a proportion of our HD screen resolutions these days, rather than just being what's needed. This "Black Friday" (whatever that means) sale is displayed with no prices, just videos which spontaneously cover up others nearby without me clicking anywhere! Was this hassle ever trialled with normal visitors whose priority is USING the site, not drooling over excessive technical complexity at the expense of functionality?
This, AND rollback the library to manual sorting.
You make the site unpractical for me, I just stop using it and buying, simple as that.
2008-2009 years had be BEST design ever created in human history of digital distribution. I doubt that GOG is that interested in what I think though.
Hello GOG team and supporters,
I feel the new design is trying to hard to be fancy instead of practical. I would have been happy with the old one with a new addition of a search bar for game so we do not have to go to browse games every time to find something. Also instead of having the new store page forced upon us it would have been better if we could have had options in how we view the store page. Have a tab for the curated collections for example that can be toggled on or off.
Thank you for taking the time to read and consider this,
RedWolf
The changed Layout of the Website decreases the clarity and by this also its usability. Especially the overview of the available games. Whats the reason to put the options to select games by categories as a static element on the the left side of the view ??? People commonly read from the upper left to the buttom right. So one rule in webesign says never to put secondary information in a context to the upper left. And unfortunately. This is only an example whats gone wrong.
And why usefull options like "sort by price" and "list-view" are deleted?
In short. Windows 10 and its gang isnt a good candiate in software design to take an example.
Old design was more convenient.
They completely broke IE11, no prices show on anything, main store page does not respond as nothing can be clicked on and all the 'tiles' for each game are blank so have no idea what's on sale!
Utter joke, and I will not be switching browsers! GOG is the only site I visit that won't work in IE11, so they obviously have no clue about how to code compliant websites or testing them before launch, bunch of amateurs!
When searching the internet for information and I happen upon a site like this new GoG site, I backtrack immediately. I look for a site that's informative and easy to navigate. The new GoG site is none of the above. It's a cartoon.
I agree. The new website design leaves a lot to be desired.
The old design was so much more practical and navigable.
not only that, but also tarred and feathered like the good old western.
Whoever is responsible for this new site design should be fired.
