and the short answer was that gog didn't have the rights to it.

Well, look what I found today...

Are those fake? Or is it now available for gog to get? I would rather pay gog a few dollars than old-games.com.

That site doesn't have the rights to it either- they're not a legitimate retailer selling old games, they're a piracy site that charges for their illegal downloads. Or, more likely, charges for a 'download manager' that will do nothing but flood your system with malware, but at no point download the game you thought you were buying.

Since it will take days to download 500 MBs for free, the site certainly encourages you to pay for its services, so you may be right.
They also have a larger selection than other, free abandonware sites.

I am still wondering why the game is not on GOG. Does Infinite Interactive not have rights for Warlords? If so why they will not re-release it on GOG.

Well if they don't want to sell it you can always download it from the internet. Personally I still have working CD but I would prefer it to have it on installer on GOG.
