Perhaps I was a bit brash and went on a tangent. Sorry!

Enough is enough?

You've been here four months. :P

It_is_Yogurt: Seriously. How long has GOG Galaxy for Linux been in production now??? You guys are always showing yourselves as the good guys, with no DRM games, and free returns if it doesn't work on your computer, but then you just completely ignore the Linux users. Outrageous! And the Linux installers from your website don't work half the time. I would have switched over to Linux a long time ago if Galaxy was available for it. Please hurry it up!!!
How does lack of Galaxy for Linux translate to completely ignoring Linux users? And how can you know they don't work half of the time if you haven't switched to Linux? I've never had any problems with Linux installers, BTW.

I switched to Linux a while back for about a month, but the installers never did work correctly. Perhaps it was just for me. But it certainly would be nice to have Galaxy for Linux. It would be such an easier experience. Perhaps I was a bit brash in the original post. :(

Except that gog.com doesn't (yet?) support any of the other good OSes; there's no support for any of the BSDs, for example. Maybe once gog starts supporting FreeBSD or one of the other BSDs, that might be an option, but as is, Linux is the only sane option at this point.

(Windows is proprietary crap, contains DRM in the OS itself, and chooses to do things differently (and usually worse) than other OSes (the Registry comes to mind as a particularly bad misfeature); much of MacOS is proprietary crap that refuses to run on non-Macs, and the fact that Apple's other main OS (iOS) doesn't allow software not approved by Apple to run on it is enough of a reason to avoid it.)

Pardon me if my questions sound dumb as I am not that knowledgeable about these things.
Is it possible to run games which were mostly and still is to some extent made focussing on windows on BSDs?
More importantly is it possible for GOG to implement such systems?
I don't have any experience regarding BSDs though, while I have used Linux in the past, and liked it mostly apart from a few snags.
I am happily playing FTL that I just installed like fifty hours ago with absolutely no problems. All I had to do was tick the "allow executing file as program" option in the download's properties. With many games you have to make sure you have the necessary dependencies though but that is the same as trying to run an old Windows game on a modern version of Windows.

If you like to have a client, I can understand that it is not fun that GOG is not working on the Linux version. Let us hope there willl be one in 2019, the earliest I dare hope for one.

Wine runs on the BSDs, just as it does on Gnu/Linux and Mac OS X. Additionally, FreeBSD (and likely others) have some form of Linux compatibility, and it may be possible to run the games through that.

I tried to install it as a VM on my laptop but had issues. I have one of those laptops where drivers only exist for windows 10. Been meaning to try again.

I still cannot grasp why Linux users are so keen on getting a client, while Win 10 users are fighting to stay clear of it ...
Hmm?

Ahh now i kinda see what the tangent was about that is now gone...

Certainly there's issues, but i haven't had issues either. the .sh files are self contained, easy to run, do their job. And i've only had a few games not want to work on wine (although those that did my laptop's too slow so much for playing those)

Sometimes when you accept liberty and freedom, you leave behind some of the conveniences behind.

Win XP or Win7 are both decent, though i'd prefer to have them unplugged from the Internet...

Proprietary hardware... it is an issue. Drivers tend to come out years later, unless some like Nvidia actually have drivers. I'd say building your own computer is a better bet... shop and compare compatibility lists before hand. As for laptops.... *shrugs*

I assume you mean Galaxy? Meh, i don't want a client either. Steam killed me on that idea with their shitty DRM....

I don't get it either. I'm all good on Linux without a client. My only complain regard this matter is that the lack of the stupid client on Linux is keeping new games ported on Linux.

Not even sure whether I want games that require Galaxy ported to Linux. This is not much better than DRM.

An (optional) client for managing installs and updates is fine. But making it mandatory to be able to run a game is not what I am used to from GOG.
