GameRager: It is impossible to prevent offending anyone at all times, though, and if he didn't do it to offend then imo he did what he was paid to do....especially if he got people's eyes and ears pointed at the site and people buying games.
amok: no, you do it by staying away from contested subjects. he did not need to show the pic on pissing on game journalism grave, for example, to tell about Postal 2. as it is used for a certain movement. it was a bad choice. There was many other pics to chose from
True, but the pic did it's job did it not? It generated attention(from both sides, likes and dislikes) and likely drove people to the site. And Postal 2 was a very controversial(and crude) game....so why not use something just as controversial?
Also why is it verboten(by some) to co-opt a word/meme/etc others use for your own use? Is that somehow a crime to just do so? Or is doing so only bad if done for the wrong reasons? I would think only actual intent to be mean spirited/mean to those who started the phrase/meme/etc would matter the most when making such value judgments against such co-opting.
GameRager: Serious reply: This is sad if anyone good loses their job, but such happens in life and if it does happen i'm hoping they could find new work pretty soon at another site.
NuffCatnip: The thing is, we are not talking about good people.
I was mainly trying to show sympathy to any good people that might be hit by them closing up shop....yes, many were likley involved in this and deserve punishment but surely not the janitor/the coffee guy/etc?
paladin181: And yet the posts weren't bad, overall. GOG turning into mealy mouthed spineless idiots instead of backing their guy up was the problem. Kowtowing to anyone who may have been slightly upset or manufacturing outrage for people instead of politely saying no offense intended.... that's part of the problem and what really ignited everything. The perpetual outrage machine saw that GOG could be very easily bullied and things went downhill fast from there.
amok: *shrug* if he had chosen any other pic there would not have been a need for anything.
As I said before: Anything they would have chosen could've set people off......this is current year, after all, the year of the perpetually offended masses.
