joelandsonja: Since when do we give massive corporations like Disney a free day out of the year to jam their merchandise down our throats? Even if you're a fan of Star Wars, I really don't see why the public should support such a ridiculous holiday.
Sure it's silly, and I don't "celebrate" it in any way, but if people have fun with it, or with "talk like a pirate day", or some other bit of nonsense - power to them, as far as I'm concerned.
With your "don't give Disney free publicity" take you could just as well demand people don't wear Star Wars t-shirts or don't call their dog Chewbacca I mean, I can get disliking Disney, but there's no point cutting off your nose to spite your face. I don't see why people should need a special day to Star Wars stuff, but then I never was the type of guy to need a sense of belonging to some larger group, which I guess is the point of such a "special day" - to get a sense of sharing the hobby with people all over the world. And while I'm always wary of any and all examples of "flock mentality", I'm not quite enough of an asshole to demand people give all that up just because I don't like the current owner of the franchise.
Just ignore it like you ignore all the dozens of other silly "days of this and that" throughout the year. Or if you can't, watch some Babylon 5 to have some fun and feel satisfyingly contrarian at the same time.
