Clearly I'm an idiot but what are the offline backup installers? I just installed what I thought was the game, which took all day, only to find out it was this backup thing. So then I had to actually install the game, which wasn't named differently. I just clicked the install button so I don't know what happened. When I click the Deus Ex: Mankind Divided file in the offline backup installer section it just starts to download it again and I can't find whatever the fuck it installed on my computer.

They are.. the game. I'm not sure how to make that much simpler. The name "backup" may be misleading, but it's just GOG's way of trying to make them secondary to using the Galaxy client, which is total bullshit. Anyway, just download all the files listed as the offline installer, double click on the exe file, install the game to whatever location on you PC you like and there you have it.

I'm not sure how to explain it better since your post is rather confusing and I'm not sure what the problem actually is.

They are installers that don't require Galaxy. Games like Deus Ex will be in seperate parts there will be a .exe file and several .bin files. You need to download all of these files and put them into the same folder then run the .exe file.

I'd say at a guess you might not of downloaded all the .bin files.

It's just a bad naming by GOG. Offline backup installers are simply good old regular game installers. You download the files, which contain a complete game, and install it. They don't contain Galaxy client in any way, shape or form.

Edit: It should be relatively easy to force Galaxy to detect that installation if I'm not mistaken, but I don't use it so I can't give you specifics.

The problem is after install it's not on my computer, despite installing everything on that backup list. It's very confusing to me as well.

Did you look at the path/folder that the installer mentions right after you double click on the exe?

The game installers comprise of:
1 x exe and some bin files possibly. You download these fully. Then run the exe. An install window pops up which gives you the chance to change some install options. Install outside windows fiolders, e.g. c:/mygames. When finished ther is an icon on the desktop to run the game. Very simple. Ignore the galaxy client, it is not needed.

Just to make it clear: downloading a game through web browser doesn't install it on your system. Installation is a separate action you have to initiate yourself after you have completely downloaded installer files.
Reminds me again that there's still no comprehensive video tutorial dedicated to the whole process using offline installers ONLY.
Would be great if somebody could finally rectify that, and the resulting video could be linked to in future threads like this one.

Are you trying to tell us you have a Mac?
It never gave me the option to select a file path or anything. It's just straight up not on my computer after installation. I now have less space on my hard drive, so clearly those files are somewhere but I can't find them despite searching extensively. Thanks for the replies my dudes but I'm giving up because this problem just doesn't even make sense.

Hell no, me trying to find my way around a Mac would probably look like this.
That's just the first video that came up when I searched for the mentioned non-existent video tutorial on "Offline Installers for Beginners".

To quickly find files on your computer (assuming it's Windows) I recommend "Everything": https://www.voidtools.com/

To be honest, I find it hard to hold that against anyone. Until right now I would never have imagined something like that to be necessary. And I'm pretty useless with computers.
