This thread is to share your thoughts about Epic Games in general. Their games, their client, their store, their giveaways, the exclusives they're buying and whether you like them or not. This is NOT a news thread mind you. We won't be announcing the games released there here. Like I said, it is to share your thoughts on them.

Unreal was pretty good back in the day, Nothing they've done since has really been my thing.

Their store is more or less the same as Steam, I'm pretty indifferent. Cool giveaways though.
*shrugs*
It's a store. Some games are tied to the client, others not. It's less restrictive as Steam, but also has less features. It updates its games fairly quickly and frequently but has zip community and a hard to handle support system.

It's also generous with its giveaways (for the moment while they rake in addicted users), but its pricing on games even in sales is often more expensive.

inb4 the haters turn this thread into a dumpster fire.

I will never ever for as long as I live purchase video games from the Epic Games store, ever.
This one is all of them mixed (except the "epic store games you can play without its launcher" one)
None, never looked at the place and I can live with that.
Just prefer GOG.
Shrug.
I'm surprised they launched a store that couldn't even be competitive with Steam (Pre-2000s, that is.) at the start in terms of basic feature set.

I wouldn't say they gift games out of generosity. Epic is clearly going for a dominant market position no matter the cost. Isn't that what Amazon did back then? (And it worked).

Neither love nor hate. Unreal Gold was excellent but if you don't like Fortnite they've gone very "dry" since. Their store is very primitive and yet they have a higher percentage of AAA's relative to the store's total catalogue size that have less DRM than Steam (always a good thing), and some extremely generous giveaways.

Exclusives are a mixed bag. I've never seen them as positive for the PC, and yet what's ironically been happening is due to not being on Steam at launch, there's enough pent-up demand after a year that they are actually more likely to do a simultaneous re-release on both GOG & Steam (Control, Metro Exodus, etc) vs the large number of 2007-2017 era games that released Steam-only then just sat there remaining Steam-only titles for years on end. In that respect, I've never seen such an "anti-competitive" measure have such a positive effect on bringing recently released AAA's to GOG so quickly...

low rated
Wouldn't ever spent moeny there but they did gift me some great games
I'd say they're doing a reasonable job at breaking the effective Steam monopoly power (for the pedants, note that I'm using the economic definition, not the literal one). While some sides may hate their exclusives, they're not anti-competitive per-se - and they drive traffic and sales to the site. A lot of people seem to hate Tim Sweeney for this, but it's a bit unfair - after all, Steam was the only place where you could get major releases a few years ago (it's basically the same thing).

I also approve of their efforts to reign in Apple and Google - to me, those two companies behave worse than Microsoft in the mid 1990s, but that's another discussion!

As for their games output, apparently Fortnight is popular and makes loads of money. I'm pleased for them with that, but have no desire to play it myself.

Why are you interested? Do you work for Epic?

It is a bit like Steam I guess, but with the backing of Chinese Tentacles or whatever the gaming company was called, if I've understood right. So I expect each and every Epic game has a small piece of code in them tracking what you do at any point of time, and whether you perform any actions within the games that could be deemed anti-Chinese government.

How many Winnie The Pooh games do you find in EGS anyway?
Will neither purchase nor claim (free) games from there. Ever.
I'd rather not join and bolster the ranks of a company with such bad business practises (exclusivity bullshit, mandatory client), which also indirectly supports the chinese government (through Tencent's 40% of shares).
