I tried to set up Galaxy 2.0 and after it downloaded the data, a pop up appeared saying Galaxy was open and I needed to close all instances to continue. I did that (even making sure via taskmaster) and... I still got the popup. It wouldn't go away so I had to hit cancel. After making sure everything was closed, I did it again and the same thing happened.

For me webinstaller couldn't even download files, just gives error but when I installed on other machine and copied right folders from ProgramData\GOG.com and GOG Games\GalaxyClient it works (of course it requires purging webcache).

A little late, but this was the case for me too. I needed to close another Process via Task Manager ("Galaxyhelper" or something similiar). As an alternative you could uninstall the "old" Galaxy client beforhand.
