Story:Baldur's Gate is a fantasy role-playing video game developed by BioWare and published in 1998 by Interplay Entertainment. It is the first game in the Baldur's Gate series and takes place in the Forgotten Realms, a high fantasy campaign setting, using a modified version of the Advanced Dungeons & Dragons (AD&D) 2nd edition rules. It was the first game to use the Infinity Engine for its graphics, with Interplay using the engine for other Forgotten Realms-licensed games, including the Icewind Dale series, as well as other licensed D&D campaign worlds such as Planescape: Torment. The game's story focuses on players controlling a protagonist of their own creation who finds themselves travelling across the Sword Coast alongside a party of companions, to unravel the mystery surrounding a sudden iron crisis affecting the region and attempting to discover the culprits behind it, all while uncovering dark secrets about their origins and dealing with attempts on their life.Show more

Like the EEs or not, there are plenty of Enhanced Editions on GOG that coexist with the original versions, I have no idea why we don't have the option to buy the original saga version here. Specially when the EE has made so many changes to the point it could be considered a remake.
The original was once offered here solo. This and the other D&D games are a prime candidate for "The GOG Preservation Program" because "Time is erasing the games that shaped you. Forgotten, incompatible, unplayable" right here on this site.

This is the most important game for me, and has shaped my love for fantasy together with The Lord of the Rings and the Dragonlance books. I still remember seeing the frist ads and screenshots in the "Komputer Świat" magazine that sparked my imagination (I didn't even have my own PC until the year 2000). When I actually saw the game in 1999 it was my friends older brother playing it. I instantly knew that this is the game for me and I loved everything about it: the graphics and thier style, the music, the voiceover (Polish), the stone interface, the sketches during the loading, the rich in colour portraits, the overall tone and atmosphere of adventure and wonder. I recall the adventuring party delve into the Nashkel mines not knowing what they might encounter. I have played this game countless times, since there's so many party compositions and options to create your own character. Throughout the years I tried different mods and actually went back to play the original sometime ago - and that's how I like to play this game to this day (even without the Tales of the Sword Coast expansion). Something about experiencing the original feels right, and that's how it was initially released. That is also why it was a really painful moment for me, when the original was removed from GOG and hidden in the bundle with the Enhanced Editions. I don't know if it's possible, but since this is a Dreamlist, my dream is to have the original version restored and added to the GOG's Preservation Program one day.

I don't like the Beamdog's version that enhanced nothing and even made UI worse than it was and trashed cinematics from the original games. I'd like my Baldur's Gate as it was without needing to use my CDs. I don't care if it's just in English and not in French, I have no nostalgia (and anyway my brain will do the work with or without the French voices), I just enjoy this game as it was at release.
