Barbie Adventure: Riding Club

Barbie Adventure: Riding Club (1998)

by Human Code, Mattel Media
Genres:Adventure, Sport, Simulator
Themes:Kids
Game modes:Single player
Story:Barbie gets her very own horse ranch. Designed for the five to nine year old age range, Barbie Adventure: Riding Club lets players care for and ride their own horse. The horse riding is European (aka Equestrian) style as opposed to western, although the game doesn't force the player to take that into account when they're riding. The horse is controlled with simplistic controls to make it jump, steer, and adjust speed. After choosing a horse for Barbie, she can spend some time feeding and grooming it before saddling up and going for a ride. Riding the trails is the bulk of the gameplay. The player can race their horse against several of Barbie's friends. There are also some mini-games that the player comes across while riding. The mini-games involve activities such as arranging flowers in their proper sequence, sorting apples, and frog-hopping.Show more

Rocky
RockyRocky Super Action Boxing is the first licensed video game based on the popular Rocky film series. The game is based on Rocky III and was designed by Coleco. In the game, the player can play as either Rocky Balboa or Clubber Lang in the game, either against the computer in a one player game, or against each other in a "Head to Head" two player mode. There is also a "Demo" mode if the player wants to watch Rocky and Clubber Lang fight. Since Rocky Super Action Boxing is one of the later ColecoVision titles released, it includes a pause feature for the game. Each boxing match consists of, according to the skill level chosen, two, five, ten, or fifteen rounds each lasting one minute each. During gameplay, the player's movement is restricted to three positions or "lanes" vertically, and from each player's side of the ring to the front of their opponent horizontally. The 4 button controller allows for (independently) offensive hits to the body or head, defensive blocking for the head and body, and ducking. Points are scored in the game by hitting the opponent's guard (1 point), or with a punch connecting with the opponent's head or body (2 points for either hit). Victory can be achieved in two ways, either by knockout, or by point count if the fight goes all the way to the end.

Soccer
SoccerSoccer is Taito's third ever video game release and the first developed internally. The game was designed by the highly influential Tomohiro Nishikado, who would later go on to create Space Invaders. Soccer is a ball-and-paddle game like Pong, but with a green background to simulate a playfield, allowing each player to control both a forward and a goalkeeper. The players can adjust the size of the players, who are represented as paddles on screen. It also has a goal on each side. Soccer is likely to be Japan's first original domestically produced video game, in comparison to Japanese Pong clones released earlier, including Sega's Pong Tron and Taito's Elepong. Since it was exported to Europe in 1973 it may also be the first Japanese video game to be released on the European continent.

Kult: The Temple of Flying Saucers
Kult: The Temple of Flying SaucersSet in a post-apocalyptic world, Chamber of The Sci-Mutant Priestess casts you as Raven, a young "Tuner" (psionic mutant), working for the Tuner Netwerk. One day, while out on assignment with his friend Sci Fi, he witnesses the massacre of a "Normal" village, by a group of Protozorqs (physical mutants). Raven and Sci Fi disobey their instructions from the Netwerk, and fight back against the Protozorqs. In the ensuing struggle, Sci Fi is captured and taken back to the Protozorqs' mountain temple. Raven vows to save her, and so gets himself captured, too. As the game starts, Raven is a prisoner in the crazy Protozorq temple, where something sinister and utterly insane seems about to happen. Apparently, Raven has to go through five ordeals, to become a "Divo" (a Messenger Of The New Solution). For each ordeal he completes, he receives a Vort skull. Can you complete the five ordeals, save Sci Fi and destroy the fiendish Protozorq plot, in time? Chamber of the Sci-Mutant Priestess (originally entitled Kult: The Temple of Flying Saucers) is a puzzle-solving adventure game. To solve the puzzles, Raven will sometimes need to collect and trade items; but more often, usage of the eight "psi-powers" is required. These powers range from a simple light spell ("Solar Eyes") to instant-kill ("EV" - extreme violence) and complex psychological effects ("Brainwarp"). The five ordeals can be completed in any order, or even skipped altogether to reach a different ending. A time limit is imposed on the ordeals, and is calculated by turns. A "wait" command, which skips a turn, is also available.
