I've tried other Battlefield games over the years. None felt near as fun as this and Vietnam. Even playing alone, the bots were decent enough to play against that I loved it. The few times I got to play LAN multiplayer have some of my favorite childhood memories in it. Driving a jeep straight at a tank and bailing while my friend was distracted shooting at the tank before it slams into and blowing up still brings a smile to my face after all these years.

Played almost every Battlefield game since this one, but this is the one that started it all for me, also for the FPS genre in general, other than maybe Half-Life and Counter-Strike.
Love the other Battlefield games, but none has felt as sandbox-y like this one, and often having maps that are totally unbalanced just to be somewhat accurate to the battle is amazing. It's not as much a competitive game as it is a creative game.
I play my whole childhood in this game on forgotten hope mod with friends and brother. There are so many memories to tell but its hard to describe it with details. Very fun gameplay was on wake island, midway and battle of britain where with friends we jump on one vehicle and fight.
Battlefield 1942 was an amazing thing to experience. It is difficult to put into words just how much fun it was. I was never able to get into 6v6 games. You could be playing something like this, where you can group together in an LCVP boat, land on a beach and try to take objectives. Parachute out of a plane together during Operation Market Garden. Secrets weapons of WWII! There is just so much here that so many will never experience. Battlefield 1943 had people playing up until the very last moment when the server shutdown, and that only had 20% of the content that '42 had. This game deserves better and should not be forgotten.
I already have payed copies of this game on cd. And we like to play this game offline via lan in a nice family round. It is very pleasant to play together and we enjoy the mixture between using vehicles, playing as a soldier and also the ww2-setting of the game. Unfortunately, Battlefield 1942 is causing problems while using connection between pcs. Sometimes, we have to do a full reinstall to use it again via connection. Also, I prefer to get gog-versions, instead of cds, that can scratch.
I would love to see Battlefield 1942 on GOG.com. I would give you 50 bucks per copy and in total 150 bucks for me and my family, if you could make it possible on GOG. But without lan-issues or forcing to drm. An additionally GOG GALAXY support would be nice, too for inviting friends to the game via GOG.

Life was hard in the beginning, but over the 800 years the different colonies prospered and expanded their territories, claiming more and more systems for their own. Survival and propagation eventually led to growth and profit as each of the colonies developed specialties and fostered commerce. As the colonies grew and time passed their connections with their roots on Earth dwindled and they lost their memories of the conflicts of the past. Soon their attention was dominated by new, more immediate conflicts. Feelings of lost ancestral connection spurred anachronism in the look of the great cities, and created a somewhat distorted image of each colony's cultural heritage. In the ever-expanding outer edge of the territories, frontier lawlessness prevailed.
The Houses: Each shipboard colony that left Earth carried some memory of its origins in its name. The Liberty carried Americans, The Bretonia flew from The United Kingdom and surrounding territory, The Kusari from Asia, and the Rheinland launched with Germanic cargo.
As each ship settled and colonies began to expand, they knew little about each other and their advancing development. Finally, little by little, the individual colonies found each other and began to set up trade routes to link their systems for commerce and solidarity.
Today, with each colony firmly rooted in its respective corner of the galaxy, the colonies rely heavily on each other for trade and industry but also compete for resources and new territories in the Border Worlds. The colonies mandate member governments in "The New Alliance" within the Sirius sector. To control conflicts, each colony has forged alliances and treaties with others as they have grown. Competition remains fierce, however. Struggles rage for supremacy in business, commerce, resources, power and control.
