Cydonia: Mars - The First Manned Mission

Cydonia: Mars - The First Manned Mission (1999)

by Dream Catcher Interactive
Genres:Adventure
Game modes:Single player
Story:Earth is dying, you, the player must save it by succeeding in the colonization of Mars. This is an adventure game that looks a lot like Cryo's brand, meaning 3D pre-calculated graphisms, with smooth transition when moving from place to place, plus of course, the obligatory full-motion cut-scenes. The art is impeccably done and up to the standards of the release year (1998). Upon arriving on Mars, however, the landing module hits an unexpected force-field and crashes, and that's where the adventure begins. The first puzzles are quite easy; they consist of saving the module and the two other humans aboard from the shipwreck and the subsequent fire, all the necessary hints being given to you by one of your shipmates. However, after that point, puzzles are way more difficult, as they consist (at first at least) of exploring remains of an alien civilization, with thought processes "alien" to human players.Show more

This game was also released as "Lightbringer" and I would recommend adding that to the title. More people in the US likely remember it that way and it could get more votes. I remember this game being broken and requiring a patch when I bought it... which was not a good sign for its overall quality, but made me even more hyped up to play through it once I managed to get past the glitch. This is a true "good old game" in the sense that the game itself may have been very average for the slew of lower budget adventure games that came out in this era, the nostalgia runs incredibly deep for those of us who played it. This would be an instantaneous impulse buy for me if it were released.
Those games also need your vote!

Eternal Darkness: Sanity's Requiem
Eternal Darkness: Sanity's RequiemEternal Darkness: Sanity's Requiem is a psychological horror action adventure, released in 2002 by Nintendo for the Gamecube. It tells the stories of twelve characters that span across the world and two millennia who have to deal with ancient forces of evil which have been trying to manifest themselves in our world. Chapters take place in Ancient Rome, Persia, the Middle East, and modern-day Rhode Island. Throughout the game, the protagonists will have access to several weapons appropriate for their era, from bastard sword & gladius to flintlock pistol and shotgun. The game features an involved Magic system, which allows different spells to be created through the combination of runes. These spells can attack enemies, dispel illusions, and heal both the body and items. Eternal Darkness: Sanity's Requiem also has a unique feature called Sanity. If an enemy sees a character, their Sanity meter drops. When Sanity gets low, hallucinations begin to plague the character. Walls bleed, voices whisper from nowhere, the camera gets disoriented. Sanity can be restored by dealing a finishing move on a dying enemy, or with spells or some items.
