Story:Grand Theft Auto is the first game in the Grand Theft Auto series and a sandbox-crime game published by Rockstar Games.
The original Grand Theft Auto is made up of a series of levels each set in one of the three cities in the game. In each level, the player has a target number of points to achieve, and five lives to attain the score.
The score counter doubles as a money meter; the player can spend this money on paint jobs and various other things. However, any money spent is of course taken away from the score, making the goal that little bit further away.
On obtaining the target number of points, the player must then drive to a certain location to complete the level, which allows progress to the next one.Show more

All the GTA entries seem community-supported and there are ways to get them to run under Linux (any fellow Steam Deckers in here?)
All of them? No, sadly GTA I is a glaring omission, and it's a nightmare to get it to run under modern hardware, in this case Linux. I'm sure a Windows version that got some GOG Preservation program treatment would run pretty fine in a Proton environment too and even if not... Man I would love to own GTA I as a GOG release with all that peace of mind that comes with it!
The Very start of the game series that is considered a household name.
i can remember renting this on ps1 in the late 90's from a video store.
this was the very first game i played that let you explore complete urban freedom
just going on a crime spree in all 3 cites (Liberty City, Vice City, San Andreas )
which laid the cursor for later installments in the series.
The game would be such an amazing fit for GOG.
The original Grand Theft Auto was unforgettable for pioneering the open-world genre, offering players unprecedented freedom in a top-down, satirical view of urban crime. Its simplistic yet addictive gameplay allowed for exploration and mischief and I recall playing this game with friends, passing the controller around, each of us trying to outdo the other in chaos. The fun was in the freedom to choose your path, whether it was completing missions or just causing havoc. The challenge was in the strategic navigation to avoid or outrun the police. This first entry in the franchise deserves preservation because it set the foundation for what open-world gaming would become. Having it DRM-Free on GOG would keep this piece of gaming history accessible, allowing new players to appreciate where modern classics began, and ensuring that the legacy of innovation and freedom in gaming can be appreciated without barriers.
I played it many years ago, but at that time I had downloaded it from some random website...
I think they should add it because, besides being a very good game and the first in the franchise, there is no other way to acquire it in a licensed form (both the first and second games)...
As a kid growing up in the 90s, this was one of the first video games I have played along with a few other that still fresh in my memory. GTA along Doom, System Shock, Diablo, Chrono Trigger, Baldur's Gate, Half Life , Golden Eye etc are the games I spent most time with in the 90s and defined the chilhood gamer in me and I would love to own GTA 1 on GOG and play it again to relive my childhood.
This one a remember that i go to my classmate house to do a paper to school, we did it extra fast just for us spende the hole day playing GTA hahahaha was my favorite game for a looooong time!

In my youth I'd feeld like a gangster with my copy of the game.
"Bad guy" music, stealing cars, driving arround. Not understanding a lot of the storry.

This game was a massive part of gaming history. I own it on Steam, but I can't play it! I would be very happy to purchase it again on GOG if I could just so I could play it again! I know there are ways and means to get it running, but the main issue is modern day controller support.
A true classic, the one that started it all.
This game along with it's expansions and sequel, were available for free on Steam and on the publisher's site for a limited time. It was sadly removed as the developer's couldn't make it work properly on modern systems. GOG should bring this game back and fix it properly.

Need for Speed: High StakesJust like its predecessors Need for Speed: High Stakes is an action racing game with a wide selection of exotic sports cars and many different types of tracks. The trademark Hot Pursuit mode game mode from the first game in the series is still present, where players race opponents on tracks filled with regular traffic and police cars that chase the racers. The classic pursuit mode is extended with two additional modes: Getaway and Time Trap. In Getaway the player needs to shake off the police in a set amount of time, or playing as the police trap a speeder before time runs out. In Time Trap an entire race needs to be completed before time runs out, or as the police all speeders need to be arrested. There are minor differences between the two platforms for this game mode, regarding spike strips, road blocks, and back-up. The latter for instance is unique to the PlayStation version. The Pursuit mode is available in multiplayer as well and players can take different sides or race together.
It is the first game in the series to introduce a Career mode with a set of challenges. Beating these is rewarded with trophies for unlocks, and money to spend on new cars, repairs and upgrades. In the PlayStation version the Career mode is split up into two different sets of challenges: Tournament (required races) and Special Event (optional races). High Stakes in the title refers to races where players bet their cars. In the PC version these are a part of the Career mode when the player owns more than two cars. In the PlayStation version two players can insert their memory cards and race against each other. The winner immediately receives the opponent's car and it is deleted from the loser's memory card right away.
In addition to the new game modes it is also the first game in the series to have a detailed physics models. Damage now affects both the appearance and the performance of the car for the first time.
