As a kid, my first Windows computer (an IBM Aptiva) came with this game bundled with an ATI 3D Rage card. It was mind-blowing. The game had my attention from the awesome intro, the soundtrack was amazing (played direct from CD), and the gameplay was dynamic and incredibly engaging with a story like that followed your actions and culminated in the beginning of the Clan invasion. I spent so many hours in this game, and still long to play it again. I feel like none of the subsequent Mercs entries to the line have captured the magic of this one.
One of the first games I played multiple times to see the different endings, so many great memories. The opening cinematic is still a masterpiece in my opinion. "... look on the bright side, you get to keep the money"

This is one of my all time favorite games. It was the first game that really made me feel like a mercenary commader. And so many sound bytes still live in my head. "Connected to ComStar Contract Database." I remember having a heck of a time getting past one mission, with elementals. It blew my mind when I figured out I could go back and choose to take a different mission and still continue the main story later. Would love to be able to play it again without jumping through a bunch of hoops.

One of the first PC games that I majorly got into. Loved the intro. Was never particularly good at the campaign as a 10 year old, but the instant action was just as fun

One of the first games in the mechwarrior and mechcommander games that I had as a kid. I usually played this solo. it was one of the first resource management games I played that I enjoy it and some of the missions were very hard and the arena matches were tough but very rewarding if I win more often. This needs to be on here especially the other mechwarrior games and the mechcommander games as well

Oh boy, this was the Mech game I played the hell out of. Even got to play with MercNet a few times. I didn't know it when I started playing, but you really had to keep an eye out on the start and end dates of those contracts. I miss computers having Game ports for Joysticks, as my MS Sidewinder 3D got a lot of use. Shame the MS precision had a drift back to neutral on the twist unlike the Sidewinder.

I submit the most Merc2 Mercs moment of all time: You land on a planet on a single patrol for a quick milk run. You go through the keyboard ritual to increase your radar range to 2km and start towards nav Alpha. You destroy everything in your path with minimal resistance until a few nav points later you're 1 km out from the dustoff nav point when the last obstacle powers up... a pair of mechs lead by a third your targeting computer reveals is some ancient thing called a Flashman that you vaguely remember from the 2750 TRO. You close the gap to finish it off when your cockpit flashes red twice as two large lasers instantly slag your cockpit. You run it again because "that was just bad luck." Then it happens again. And again. And again. Then you switch to a Catapult, run it again, but this time you spin around and jumpjet backwards into range because that way the ancient bucket of bolts can't see your cockpit. Then somehow without touching the back or sides of your Catapult, it headshots you twice in a row. Eventually you give up, go straight toward the last nav point, skipping Nav Alpha, and manually target it from 2km out, and shoot it to death with PPCs before it can power up. Because that Flashman didn't have RNG, it just had two Large Laser headshots. Would love a 1:1 remake of this game with modern 3D engines. The newer games just didn't capture the same atmosphere.
IMO the best of the Mechwarrior 2 games, and the one that set the bar that every 'mercenaries' mechwarrior has been chasing ever sense. It takes all the best parts of the mechwarrior games and rolls them in the dirt ,makes you pay for them and lets you go from a next to nothing lone mercenary to a hero of the inner sphere fighting back the clan invasion!
Those games also need your vote!

Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker
Metal Gear Solid: Peace WalkerMetal Gear Solid: Peace Walker is an action-adventure stealth video game and is the third action-based Metal Gear title made specifically for the PSP. The gameplay consists of two primary modes: Mission and Mother Base. Mission are the actual action sequences of the game where the player must infiltrate an enemy territory or fight a boss, whereas Mother Base is an army management. Some changes have been made to the standard Metal Gear formula: the player is now unable to move or shoot while laying down and while pinned to a wall, making Peace Walker the first game since Metal Gear to lack any crawling ability.

MechWarrior 2: 31st Century Combat
MechWarrior 2: 31st Century CombatYou are the genetically engineered Clan Mechwarrior. The Clans are invading the Inner Sphere. Join either the Wolf Clan or the Jade Falcon Clan as they pursue their own agenda against the Inner Sphere and other Clans. Take your advanced Omnimechs into battle against all comers. Win high warrior ratings (by using less mechs or smaller mechs than needed, completing secondary objectives, etc.) and you'll get chance at a promotion trial where you face superior odds in an arena. If you win, you advance in rank. If you are very successfully, you can make it all the way up to Khan, leader of the Clan! Mechwarrior II was developed in-house by Activision as the successor to their original Mechwarrior. While this time there are no dynamic campaign and mercenary actions, the Clan culture is integrated into the two campaigns. Different clans have different mechs and different rules, even different weapons. You can customize your mechs in order to use less than the "par" force in order to get a higher rating. The full 3D environment wasn't pretty as this was before the 3D accelerators made their debut, but it's still better than anything that came before. Let addition of NetMech allowed users to fight each other online. When 3D cards came along, special versions were created to take advantage of 3D texturing. While not QUITE as replayable as Mechwarrior, it's nonetheless a classic. If you want them now, get the Titanium Edition, which is 3D accelerated.

Policenauts
PolicenautsPolicenauts is an interactive movie/graphic novel/adventure game with a hard science fiction storyline, written and directed by Hideo Kojima, and published by Konami. It was initially released for the PC-9821 computer platform in 1994, followed by remade versions for the 3DO in 1995, and the PlayStation and Sega Saturn in 1996. The game has never been officially released outside Japan, despite plans for an English localization of the Saturn version. On August 24, 2009 (in honor of the 46th birthday of the game designer, Hideo Kojima), an unofficial English translation patch was released onto the internet. The game is set in a primarily first person perspective and uses a point-and-click interface: the player can move the cursor and have the protagonist (Jonathan Ingram) analyze objects around his environment or talk to other characters in the game. Like in Snatcher, the game features shooting segments where the player must defend their character from incoming enemies. The player can use the shooting trainer at the police department to test their reflex and accuracy. There are numerous puzzles in the game, including an event where the player must dismantle a bomb by following their partner's instructions. The console versions of the game all include support for their respective mouse peripherals. The Saturn version features light gun support for the shooting segments. The game was notable for being an early example of extensive voice recording in video games. It also featured a theme revolving around space exploration and occasional full-motion video cut scenes. The gameplay was largely similar to Snatcher, but with the addition of a point-and-click interface and some first-person shooter segments. Policenauts also introduced summary screens, which act to refresh the player's memory of the plot upon reloading a save, an element Kojima would later use in Metal Gear Solid. The PlayStation version of Policenauts could also read the memory card and give some easter egg dialogues if a save file of Konami's dating sim Tokimeki Memorial is present, a technique Kojima would also later use in Metal Gear Solid.

Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater
Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake EaterMetal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater is the follow up to Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty. It is the first prequel in the series, taking the series to the year 1964. The player takes the role as the series' original antagonist, Big Boss, then known as Naked Snake. MGS3 is the first game in the series to take place in a jungle. This unique setting created an opportunity for new mechanics. The player can adapt to the environment by swapping Snake's camouflage, hunt animals and gather plants for food. This iteration in the series introduced a new feature in which the player must apply medicine and perform medical procedures on Snake if he is damaged in combat. Apart from the survival themed features, the controls and gameplay of the game are very similar to Metal Gear Solid 2. Like other Metal Gear games, the focus is on stealth, but the player can go through the entire game like a shooter if they choose to. Throughout the game Snake acquires weapons of all types; non-lethal firearms, handguns, sniper rifles, machine guns, shotguns, sub-machine guns, and explosives. Metal Gear Solid 3 was the first game to implement the CQC (close quarters combat) system. CQC allowed Snake to beat enemies down to knock them out, or put them in a chokehold to knock them out, kill them, or and/or question them. Metal Gear Solid 3's health system required the player to occasionally pause the game and treat Snake's ailments. When Snake is shot, there is a chance that the bullet didn't pass through him, requiring the player to use a knife to remove the bullet, apply disinfectant, apply styptic and bandage the wound. This was done through a submenu in the pause screen. Other ailments the player must treat Snake for include: leeches, broken bones, burns, cut, arrow/bolts/needles, stomach sickness, colds, and food/venom poisoning. Adding to the survival elements of the game, Snake Eater lives up to its name by requiring the player to scavenge food for Snake. Under the life bar there is stamina bar. If Snake does not eat any food the bar depletes, causing various effects. When the stamina bar is low, the player's ability to aim is severely handicapped, Snake's hands will shake in the first person aiming mode. Just like real life, Snake's stomach can also rumble, enemy soldiers can hear this, and will be alerted to Snake's presence.

Sim Theme Park
Sim Theme ParkLike the previous title, Theme Park World tasks players with managing a series of amusement parks. To do this, the player must choose how to spend their available funds, finding a way to expand the number and scope of their parks while remaining profitable. Income from the park can be used to purchase new rides or attractions, hire staff to maintain the park, and other similar functions. Various elements can be controlled by the player, such as the name of the park, the price of admission, the layout of the roller-coaster tracks, and the quality of food in the park restaurants. An ant-like announcer by the name of Buzzy, voiced by Terry McGovern in the American-tailored Sim Theme Park and Lewis MacLeod in UK release Theme Park World, helps the player with advice during gameplay.
