Monster Hunter 2

Monster Hunter 2 (2006)

by Capcom
Genres:Role-playing (RPG)
Themes:Action, Sandbox
Game modes:Single player, Co-operative, Multiplayer
Story:Monster Hunter 2 has an improved weapon tree and upgradeable armors. As in all Monster Hunter games, armor pieces can be worn to obtain skills and abilities. A new feature in Monster Hunter 2 is the use of gems. Gems add skill points to complement those added by armor and weapons. Gems are created by combining ore and/or monster parts. Gems can be attached and detached from armor and weapons that have special gem slots. Along with the various species of monster returning from the first Monster Hunter, Monster Hunter 2 contains many new monsters, such as the metallic wind dragon Kushala Daora, the lion-headed dragon Teo Teskatoru (named Teostra in the North American and PAL versions of Monster Hunter Freedom 2) and his female counterpart Nana Teskatory (named Lunastra in the North American and PAL versions of MHF2), the primates Babakonga and Dodobrango (Congalala and Blangonga in MHF2), the bull or minotaur-like monster Rajang, and the chameleon-like dragon Oonazuchi (Chameleos in MHF2). With new monsters also comes the prospect of new weapons and armor.Show more

Probably to date the most experimental entry in the Monster Hunter games, Dos has a lot of strange features on offer. It's got the oldschool styled city/town hub in the premiere appearance of Dundorma - probably my fav town in the series (love the vibes). Jumbo village is really cool as well, and Dos is also where Elder Dragons, the original trinity of Teostra, Chameleos and Kushala Daora first got to show their stuff (as well as some other, longstanding secret friends :)). I will admit I haven't gotten too far into Dos myself so I can't really speak on the quality of the Elder Dragon fights, but I will say that the "seasons" system is incredibly novel AND COOL!! It was actually a real big shame that it turned out they weren't bringing it back for Wilds since that was the kinda vibe I was getting from that game's weather system at first. Back to Dos though, the game is really neat and it's a shame that it's stuck on the PS2 with dead servers.

There's no other Monster Hunter like this one. Not only did this game have a Day and Night cycle but it also had Seasons. These features changed which Monsters were available and what sort of items you can gather. Does it make it harder for the player to carry out a specific plan? Yes, but it is quite immersive. Still has attacks tied to the right analog stick, which doesn't take too long to get used to. Still has that addictive Monster Hunter gameplay loop that lives on to this day. This game also introduced Gunlance so it is by default a cooler game than Monster Hunter 1.

What to say about this MH? there is a lot of things to be honest, the village jumbo, the evolution that haves when you progress its something that is not more in the saga, the stations and day night mechanic, the felyne kitchen with the ingredients, the possibility to evolve your armor to high rank, the farm, this game was so important because it was an experiment after the first one, and make a lot of things that still are on the series besides a more lot of thing that are only in this one, like the wierd pvp thing tho, i wants this game to be preservated, having an official traduction to spanish, being able to play it in an official way, will be so awesomeeee pls capcom bring us your's older mh games to modernity
Those games also need your vote!

Drakengard
DrakengardDrakengard follows the story of a kingdomless prince named Caim who fights for the Union against the Empire. Under the Union's protection are the Hierarchs and the Goddess, currently Caim's sister Furiae, who is a human manifestation of one of the four seals that protect the world from being broken. As the game begins, Cain is fatally wounded in a battle with the Empire. Encountering a captured Red Dragon who is also near death, Caim makes a fateful choice. In exchange for both their lives, the Red Dragon and Caim will enter a pact. This pact will forever chain their lives to one another and link their souls, at the cost of something irreplaceable. Recharged with the fires of a Dragon, Caim's vengeance burns over the enemy... The player controls Caim on his quest. The game is separated into three distinct modes: Aerial combat, Ground combat and Event Combat. In Aerial Combat, Caim rides dragonback against a variety of airborne foes breathing fireballs (strong single shots and weaker multiple lock-on shots). The Dragon is agile and is able to evade incoming threats, turning around completely in a moment. In Ground combat, the game is shown in 3rd person though usually large, open areas. Controlling Caim, his primary ability is the use of a variety of weapons found on the battlefield. These are leveled up through continued usage, and specifically through the killing of individual enemies. Though magic (determined by weapon choice), timed attacks and evasion, Caim breaks through enemy armies. Characters recruited as allies by Caim can also be summoned during battles, steadily losing health until control is returned to Caim. In ground combat, Caim may also call forth his Dragon to ride and strafe enemies from the air. The Dragon's movements are generally the same as in aerial combat but more limited and less agile. Event combat is similar to Ground combat, but shown isometrically, restricted to a single weapon and without the aid of a dragon. It is used mainly to tell story sequences. Levels that have been visited before might become "Expedition Missions" which are optional and contain new objectives, enemies and weapons. Additionally, any level previously played in the storyline may be revisited at any time. Depending on Caim's choices (and prerequisites for those choices), there are five different endings to Drakengard.
