Made during a time where fmv videos and animations seemed to be the next big thing, the Riddle of Master Lu follows the historical figure Robert Ripley on the hunt for a lost chinese emperor's tomb.
This game has Indiana Jones written all over it, but of course comes without the famous archeologist and instead features Robert Ripley, a collector of curiosities, who run the "Believe it or not!" franchise in the late 1920s, including museums, radio shows and so on.
The voice samples are medium quality due to the lack of compression algorithms at the time. The soundtrack is ok when played with Adlib, but really shines in General MIDI. The game still runs flawlessly in DOSBox without any necessary tweaks. However, due to how DOSBox works, make sure to set your sound card to n x 22050 kHz, 176.4kHz for example. DOSBox can't interpolate to something like 196kHz and you will hear distorted sounds with that setting.
Such an incredible game that’s unavailable to play now. It’s a great mix of story, puzzle, and performance that engrosses you from the very beginning. Please bring it!
