Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Summoner

Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Summoner (1995)

by Atlus
Genres:Role-playing (RPG)
Themes:Action, Horror, Science fiction
Story:This is the original 1995 Devil Summoner game on the Sega Saturn and was released only in Japan. It was later ported to PSP in 2005. Abandoning the post-apocalyptic themes of the original series, the story takes place in modern Japan. The player character is an unnamed college student who is attacked by demons along with his girlfriend; they are saved by the timely appearance of a suave demon-hunter named Kyouji. Shortly thereafter, Kyouji is found dead under suspicious circumstances. The protagonist is then trapped inside of a warehouse and murdered by a deranged killer named Sid. Rather than stay dead, the player finds himself in the reanimated body of the slain Kyouji, and escapes from the morgue. With the help of Kyouji's voice, which guides the player from inside his head, the main character joins up with Kyouji's female partner Rei in order to save the life of his girlfriend, who is still in danger.Show more

I've played both Raidou games. I've played both Soul Hackers. I even played SMT: IF and Persona 2. I have played every single piece of the Devil Summoner story, EXCEPT the original Devil Summoner game. Please, let us english speakers finally get to enjoy this game to it's fullest!

This game seriously needs an english translation, Shin Megami Tensei is one of favorite video game franchises and I've always wanted to play this one, it's kind of crazy how this title has never had its own official english release.

Love all the original Kazuma Kaneko art, I haven't played Devil Summoner but I have played Devil Summoner: Soul Hackers that was released on 3ds and the first persona game in it's psp re-release. All the original Shin Megami Tensei games are such gems to me. Really stand-out among early JRPGS and well worth preserving.

Love this series (SMT). I've played many of them, but not this one as it's never had an English translation. Atlus seems to release a lot of games in Japan only, and it can be frustrating.
I believe SMT Devil Summoner (the og) is one of the most obscure mega-ten games, where honestly most of the fanbase only know of it because of a certain youtuber's playthrough where he relied on a written translation of the game's dialogue. I hope that with it being released on GOG will help bring the game under a new limelight and help truly cement this game's legacy to the west

This is one game that too many people in the west wish they played, but never got a chance to. Making it available on GoG will further help differentiate the platform from others - you're about preserving history and sharing experiences, not about hoarding generic AAA games at lowest possible prices.

As a fan of Megaten as a whole, I would love it if every single game possible from the franchise was available on modern platforms (PC is a great start). I've played it on PSP without an english patch, though obviously having a script translaton on my phone wasn't the same as an official english release. An official english release for Devil Summoner could open the door for more old school Atlus games to get rereleases.
