First of all it is a fantastic multiplayer-game (LAN and WAN) with a session-length about 5 hours!
That is perfect for all the people, who don't like shooter or don't want play roleplayer-games in weeks long sessions. There aren't so much games out there with strategic content and depth, suitable for mid-length gaming sessions on LAN- or online-parties.
(It is similiar to Knights of Honour (I or II), which is suitable for competitive mid-length-multiplayer-sessios too).
Second it catches perfectly the atmosphere of settling the young american continent. And those feeling is great! We played it over years with friends and work-mates!
It is a special gem of the Civilization series and breath the spirit of Sid Meiers masterpiece Colonization I.
Third it is very good with its difficulty level. Even a beginner can have fun (and luck), but to withstand the english king at the end you have to be good. So there is enough challenge. That makes it a ideale candidate for the GOG portfolio.
Fourth there are good mods out there, which eliminate errors of the original game and make the game nearly perfect. The finished and tested TAC (The Authentic Colonization) is recommended.
Why on GOG?
There are several problem with running the game under Win 10 and 11. Solving such things is a basic competence of GOG. And this game simply brings a good-old-game library a step nearer to completion.
