Unreal Tournament: Game of the Year Edition (2000)

by Epic Games
Genres:Shooter
Themes:Action, Science fiction
Game modes:Single player, Multiplayer
Story:Unreal Tournament is a first-person shooter video game developed by Epic Games and Digital Extremes. The second installment in the Unreal series, it was first published by GT Interactive in 1999 for Microsoft Windows, and later released on the PlayStation 2 by Infogrames, and on the Dreamcast by Secret Level. Players compete in a series of matches of various types, with the general aim of out-killing opponents. The PC version supports multiplayer online or over a local area network. Free expansion packs were released, some of which were bundled with a 2000 re-release: Unreal Tournament: Game of the Year Edition. The game is based on the same technology that powered Unreal, but the design of Unreal Tournament shifted the series' focus to competitive multiplayer action. Development took 18 months, and the game was initially intended to be an expansion for Unreal. Unreal Tournament received critical acclaim, with reviewers praising the graphics, artificial intelligence and gameplay, although the console ports were noted for having limitations. The game won several awards, and remakes have been attempted by fans. The series has continued with the releases of sequels Unreal Tournament 2003 in 2002, Unreal Tournament 2004 in 2004, and Unreal Tournament 3 in 2007.Show more

It's a damn shame this was removed from gog. Unreal Tournament is often sighted as being one of the best multiplayer game of all time but what it really is; is a single player game that simulates the perfect online experience. It does this with it's truly amazing bot AI. Please bring this one back Epic it's your legacy.

The Flak Cannon became an extension of my gaming reflexes, teaching me the art of prediction and spatial awareness in ways that shaped how I approach every game since. Keep UT alive ❤️

I modded the flak cannon to shoot Boids for a school project. I modded the redeemer to home after players for fun. I can still feel the Deck16 soundtrack in my veins when I close my eyes. I dream about Facing Worlds. We used to live and breathe Unreal Tournament, and while those days can never return, Unreal Tournament can.

A great game which, with the GOTY content (including extra maps, wepaons and 'relics'), provided many hours of enjoyment - I always remember finishing the single-player campaign for the first time (on the third-hardest setting IIRC) , would like to see it in its full form

We played endless LAN parties on this game and had incredible times! I can still hear the "monster kill" announcement. It's a great way to kick each other's butt and there are many graphical improvement mods out there that are really easy to use that polish the game up to modern standards. It's ultra smooth, ultra fast and highly visceral gameplay which most modern games fail to match. Especially when you amp up the giblets! :D

Bought years ago before it was delisted. It was the first online game I ever played. Of course, I was terrible. But the community of players were so nice about it and even gave me some tips to improve. This needs to Come back so more people can experience that.
The battles of Unreal Tournament are fast and frenetic you often have to have eyes in the back of your head, and/or on a swivel to watch out for sneak attacks. The games also highly modable with so much custom community content available. It's a pity it was removed from GOG it would work really well with modern systems, if the graphics engine proves a problem it could be updated to work with newer DirectX versions or paired with dxvk. While working with the dxvk project to help keep the game and the wrapper updated by opening issues and contributing code. Including testing dxvk against games in the GOG Good Old Games program. I once found a map for this game where the traps were as deadly and tricky as the players themselves. Epic Games please enable GOG to preserve this game for the future as this is your legacy, as well as one of your main masterpiece titles which started the Unreal Tournament legacy. It also started the Unreal Engine technologies, please bring this title back on GOG!
"Head Shot" My second favorite announcement after "Monster Kill". If I set the AI to auto adjust the computer players I would end up with them all on God and impossible to hit. I've got a disk full of mods and custom files waiting to be installed. Probably spent months playing this game if it was all added up. The later Unreal Tournament versions never measured up to this one

I enjoyed the heck out of this game. The two best titles at the time, Unreal tournament and Quake 3 Arena. I got both and enjoyed them when it was a about fast paced multi-player at the time. Best times ever.

I'm so glad I have a physical copy of this game. It's a darn shame it was removed from GoG before I could buy it! Amazing game, really hope it gets added back again one day
