Release GOG Galaxy 2.0 for Linux
I was preaching the gospel of GOG before. But, now that I'm on Linux, not having a native GOG launcher makes it an extremely sub-par experience compared to Steam. I'm quite surprised this isn't sorted already.
I haven't bought from GOG in years due to steam's linux support. Make me want to come back.
2025? Please GOG :)
Steam is the only one to do it right for Linux users, GOG don't care
Linux users want GOG badly :)
Alternatively open-sourcing some of the launcher code might make it easier for the very passionate community to make one for you...
Would be pretty neat to have another native client on Linux, but unfortunately it doesn't seem too likely at the moment...
In the present we have Heroic Launcher (for GOG, Epic and Amazon) a native steam client and Lutris for most of the other stuff. ProtonDB serves as a great database for game compatibility. 2024 was a decent year to game on Linux. Let's hope for more even better ones to come!
Aaaanyway... It'd really be awesome for GOG to also join the hype train, just saying ;D
Linux users want GOG badly!
+1 as linux user and I don't understand why it hasn't been done already, even steam did it !!!
I use GOG Galaxy 2.0 as the main way to organize all my games, but with Windows 10 loosing support within a year, having GOG support Linux would make the switch that much simpler.
Of course I don't know how well or if integrations would work if the other clients are used through compatibility layers, but I bet it would be simpler if GOG is native.
Here's hoping for a Linux version in 2025
do it
+1 as a Linux user who will never be using Windows again nor is ever touching Apple. I didn't even know GoG has its own installer which feels a bit too much like Steam for my liking but nothing bad: If you do decide to have one, by all means please support what is now an important gaming platform and OS! I only play open-source games 99% of the time because I feel I actually own them, GoG helps some Indie games be part of that list to some extent, but the limitations and questioning around whether "will it work on Linux" is annoying and keeps me from risking to get more stuff.
+1 for my support, if this is not done, the GOG might not be future-proofed when people start moving to steamos as their daily driver eventually
+1 There are three Linux users and gamers in my household and I would rather buy a game from GOG than rent the (revocable) right to use it on Steam whenever possible.
I'm gaming on linux for 5 years and have to buy games from steam because I have no choice. GOG please support linux. A humble request
Adding my support.
Please GOG add support for Linux. Thanks
I use Linux for most things so I would like a Linux client. I'm moving my collection to DRM-free and ownership as much as possible and I would like to play Linux-supported games on my Linux box which my wife uses the Windows machine for her games. It is 2024 and Linux desktop is only going to grow. Also, with so many companies moving to the renter model for games more folks are going to move to GOG.
+1 --> Linux gaming is not the future...it's the present!
I've been using Linux to play games for 3 years now and I actually prefer to buy my games from Steam again because I know they run there and the client doesn't cause any problems.
A native client would probably still be too expensive. But it would be great if there was at least an unofficial client, because the emulated version tends to run poorly. Or if the emulated version runs better.
I've been using Linux for gaming for 3 years now and I don't want to go back to Windows.
Still no GOG for linux then? Thought I would come here and just grab it. Nothing ever changes. Back to Steam I go.
It is ok. I will just buy from steam. Don't bother and invest in your DEI BS and DIE with it!
When is it coming? Galaxy on Lutris, Galaxy on steam.. getting a bit silly. Running X4, Stardew Valley and many others natively on Linux.. (from Gog!). Come on guys.
JUST DO IT
It's ridiculous to have to start Galaxy via Steam to play games bought from GOG on the Steam Deck, at least if one want to use cloud saves.
Come on guys, its 2024.
I take that back, looks like I have spent a bit more than $100
I've spent less than $100 on GoG in the last ten years because I've been using Linux for over 20 years. I've spent over $18,000 on Steam in that amount of time
The part where you have a Mac client when there are a lot less gamers on Mac than on Linux is funny as hell.
same. I am moving away from Steam and toward GOG and itch more often, and I'm also moving away from Windows so I'm seconding this. It would be great to have in the near future.
I am 1 of 2 computers down to fully transitioning to Linux for all my computers and gaming needs. I would absolutely love to see native GOG Galaxy support for Linux and especially incorporating Proton.
I really like GOG and would love to purchase more games here.
Unfortunately sometimes it's not enough to use Heroic launcher - I can play my Cyberpunk 2077, but I cannot install Spanish Audio though it. Now I'm afraid of purchasing Fallout 4, it lists spanish audio, but I might not be able to download it, if it's not included into initial default installation
+ 1
Win10 and linux user here. Going on forward eventually i will switch full on to using ubuntu. I think that creating an GOG Galaxy client for linux would be a smart move for cd project red. Better than releasing a shite on release buggy as fuck open world cyberpunk RPG.
Until now, I bought everything I could on Gog, and only what wasn't sold on Gog on Steam.
I don't understand how Gog galaxy can exist on Macos and still not on Linux.
With Microsoft approaching the end of Windows 10 support, I'm considering going full Linux, and as much as it pains me, all my next games will be bought on Steam.
Please release a Linux version, or at least give us some info on its development.

@Inkyubasu87 the only one popular for desktop use*
One of the reasons I stopped using GOG and the client is that there is no native Linux support. Although while I was using Windows, I was an apologist for DRM free and GOG as a replacement for Steam in particular, trying to buy games in GOG.
Today I have Linux on both my laptop and PC, and I also have a Steam Deck. And although I can install each specific game from GOG via Wine or a third-party client, it is easier for me to use the ready-made functionality of Steam.
It would be nicer to have an official and native GOG client.
Given how popular the Steam Deck is, it seems rather daft for there to still not be a native GOG Galaxy client for Linux yet. Back when Galaxy launched, you could argue that there wasn't enough demand for it but now there are millions of Steam Deck users out there who most likely have a GOG library they would like to access without relying on third-party workarounds.
Not to make too fine a point of it, but this is really THE time to pour all-in for Linux.
Darnit, I came here for this after literally just deleting Window and switching to Ubuntu and it sucks that this hasn't been prioritized.
Para cuando la plataforma en linux?
The embarrassing thing is not that they don't release an app that allows you to take advantage of the various compatibility layers (wine, proton ecc...) to run windows games on linux but the fact that they brag about drm free games without supporting the only truly free operating system...
+1 this is getting awkward
GOG Galaxy for Linux + Wine integration to run Windows games
Yo también necesito Galaxy GOG para Linux.
Gracias
PPPPPLLLEEEEEEAAAASE give us GOG Galaxy for Linux!!!!
How is GOG Galaxy for linux not a thing yet?
Just bought Metro Exodus, to play the enhanced edition which has a native Linux binary. Now I realized, that I can only download the windows version o0. If a Linux client does not happen okay. But pls give me the option to download the Linux binaries from web! <3
Please many of us love the platform and having GOG Galaxy for Linux would be great!
Please have better Linux support! It doesn't need to be as good as Proton on Steam but even an automatic wine integration with an installer would be worth gold!
