Hi guys, I recently discovered GOG games and was fascinated by the idea of actually owning the game. So I decided to buy a single player game. My question is, if I were to delete my account, would I still "own" the game, assuming I have the offline installer? Also, if I still owned the games after deleting my account, would I ever need to prove it to anyone or no?

If you download the offline installers, they are yours to keep forever and install them as many times as you want. You don't need to prove ownership to anyone because everything happens offline, so there's no one or anything to question it.

Not sure why you'd need to do that. You could always just, you know, not delete your account? Kind of a weird thing to do.
1 - Yes. When you buy a game on any DD store, you buy two things. A license to use the game, and a license to use the services of the store. Removing the license to use the stores services, does not remove the license to use the game.

2 - I am not sure who would ever check if you bought the game or not, but your proof of ownership of the license is the reciept you get when you buy the game. It is in your email. Just don't delete it and that's that.

I wanted to buy single player games and not have it be tied to anything, that's what I thought GOG was like.

The reason I ask this is because I wanted to play around with GOG Galaxy, so first I would delete my account, then make a new one, install galaxy, and then I would try to add my offline installer VIA executable file and see if my achievements and stuff get updated or not.

That sounds a bit contradictory...???
You wish to have the games not tied to anything and then proceed to tie the game to the Galaxy client, achievements, player statistics, cloud saves etc?

That was before I knew what GOG Galaxy was, now it has peaked my interest a little bit, right now I am playing my game using the offline installer and my achievements are still updating, which is why I now want to try and test to see if it will still work if the game is not on my account anymore.

It is not that easy to delete your account. You have to do a request to GOG staff.

And all rather pointless anyway. Any details saved to the cloud, can only be accessed via a GOG account, and if you create a new one, you lose access to the old one.

You buy a game from GOG and it is yours. However, services like the cloud are a different matter, and could disappear any time.
So long as you have downloaded your game and backed it up, you remain independent.

Independence means DRM-Free, and without that you are not DRM-Free.
Being tied the GOG store or to Galaxy means you are not DRM-Free.
Downloading offline installers and backing them up is the only way to truly be DRM-Free.
Sure, maybe you can backup a game install folder and be DRM-Free Lite, but there are no guarantees.

P.S. It would be a rare day for some authority to check your ownership license of a game. That would mean coming to your premises and wanting to see a receipt, and even then a lack of receipt is no proof of ownership status. If in 20 years GOG no longer exist, and their records are unavailable or not easy to access, who can prove anything.

It's unlikely but all you need to do there is Hover over Username -> Orders & Settings -> Click the Down Arrow button on a game -> View Receipt -> Print to PDF.

Achievements on every store are server side and account locked, ie if you delete your GOG account you'll delete your whole Galaxy profile along with all achievements & cloud saves. The offline installers here are intended to work without any Internet stuff at all.

Hi, this isn't exactly what you asked, but if it concerns you in the future you may wish to know that you don't have to interact with GOG Galaxy at all; it's simply more convenient to do so. You can download the offline installers directly from your collection in a browser, to store and maintain however you see fit. For the moment it seems as though achievements that require a connection are important to you, but perhaps in the future your priorities will change.

So if I decide to make a new account and then link my offline installer to galaxy, will GOG themselves ever demand to see some sort of proof that I bought the game from them or is that not their concern? Because right now I think I will just delete my account and just make a new one if I ever want to fully switch over to PC games, I only wanted to buy that one game.

I'm not quite sure I understand why you want to do the above but if you create an account ("GamingKingJames"), buy a game with it then delete that account, then create a new account (say "GamingKingJames_2") that new account will be empty. You'll still have your offline installer from your 1st account (assuming you downloaded it and backed it up), and you could add that or any other game as an "external" game (as with Steam), and I doubt they'd ask for proof of purchase that, but Galaxy specific achievements, etc, simply won't work for 'external' games you didn't buy through the GOG account you are logged in as. The main point of offline installers is that the game itself will continue to work completely offline (minus store features like achievements / cloud saves) without needing to link to / run any client at all / even if the whole website shuts down (at which point there won't be any achievements anyway).

Edit: If the main reason you want to delete your account and create another one is you want to change your account name, I'm sure GOG support can do that if you put a support ticket in.

Its not that, I just wanted to buy one game and I thought I could just buy it without having to rely on a account which is somewhat true, but if I ever do switch to mainly PC gaming I will just make a new account in the future.
Afaik there are sites where if you purchase a game, you get a (time-limited?) unique link to download it, without it being tied to an account, which techinically is even more DRM-free than GOG, but obviously those games have no online features, since those need to be tied to some sort of account. Maybe that'd be more like what you're looking for, but I couldn't give an example of such a place that still operates off the top of my head right now.
When it comes to achievements, depends on the type. Some games have them built in, entirely local, others have them tied to a client and (potentially) public. The former will work if you just use the offline installer, without Galaxy (or any other client) and after you delete the account, if that's what you want. The latter won't. I mean, afaik (would never touch the thing myself, so couldn't know from any experience), using Galaxy itself requires having a GOG account, doesn't it?

Edit: itch allows purchases without an account. They're tied to the provided e-mail address.

I know about itch, I used it before, but I still prefer GOG because it is literally the only DRM Free competitor to Steam. So when the time comes, I will likely just give full support to GOG when it's time for me to transfer over to PC. And as for the other sites you mentioned, every time I try to find "DRM-Free PC Sites" GOG is the only thing that pops up. And yes to use GOG Galaxy you need the account. And like I mentioned above, I am using my game with the offline installers but my achievements still update, but achievements aren't that big of a deal to me considering its only for one game.
