The game features a futuristic representation of San Francisco and an arcade-style physics engine. It also features a multiplayer mode for up to four players and Rumble Pak support on the Nintendo 64 port. A major difference in game play compared to predecessors in the series is the ability to extend wings from the cars in midair and glide. As with previous titles in the franchise, Rush 2049 features a stunt mode in which the player scores points for complex mid-air maneuvers and successful landings. There is also a multiplayer deathmatch battle mode. There are six race tracks, four stunt arenas, eight battle arenas, and one unlockable obstacle course named The Gauntlet. The single player race mode places emphasis on outlandish and death-defying shortcuts in each track. The game has a soundtrack mostly comprising techno music.Show more

Having fun with the splitscreen multiplayer. High-scored stunts and combos with a variety of levels, modes, and customization. Competing for the most medals and the fastest time was a blast. There were many ways you could customize the cars to your liking... weight, gravity, speed, and unlock more cars... Adding it to gog would allow competitive dynamic car stunt gameplay for everyone.
Why San Francisco Rush 2049 Needs to Be on GOG – The Best Midway Racing Game Ever San Francisco Rush 2049 is a legendary arcade racer that defined an era of over-the-top driving games — and it absolutely deserves a home on GOG. Developed by Midway, this futuristic sequel to the Rush series pushed the boundaries of what racing games could be, combining speed, creativity, and pure adrenaline into one unforgettable experience. What made Rush 2049 so special was its unique blend of racing and stunt mechanics. Set in a futuristic version of San Francisco, the game featured massive jumps, gravity-defying loops, hidden shortcuts, and interactive track elements. Most notably, cars came equipped with wings that allowed players to glide through the air, creating opportunities for stunts, aerial control, and mind-blowing tricks. No other racing game of its time offered this level of freedom. The game wasn’t just about reaching the finish line. Its stunt mode was a fan-favorite, allowing players to earn points for wild flips and tricks. Battle mode brought chaotic multiplayer combat to the table, adding replayability and party-game appeal. The futuristic visuals, catchy soundtrack, and tight controls helped solidify it as a complete and polished arcade package. Bringing Rush 2049 to GOG would preserve this piece of arcade history and make it playable on modern PCs with controller support, online multiplayer options, and GOG’s DRM-free philosophy. It’s more than nostalgia — it’s about honoring a game that broke boundaries and continues to inspire arcade racing fans today. Simply put, Rush 2049 is Midway’s greatest racing masterpiece.
