Steambots is the kind of game you might find at a dollar store, yet it has the power to change how you view RPGs. It’s a small game, but one that feels lived-in—filled with relatable nuances from everyday life. Your goal isn’t to be a hero; it’s to experience life as you see fit. No two playthroughs will ever be the same. I know that in another universe, this game is well-loved and celebrated.

Steambot Chronicles, for its time, was an incredible RPG. It had your comfy aspects like furnishing apartments, doing labor with your mech to make money, and playing music from many musical instruments. You could be good or evil in the story. The characters are very likeable. Nadia Gifford did the singing for the songs and has a very beautiful voice. It's a game I'd love to see preserved but it's absolutely a lesser-known RPG from the PS2 era. I was sad when the sequel ended up getting cancelled.
i played this game off a demodisk from the playstation mag. I just had to have it and when I finally got it from gamestop it really opened my eyes to games being more then just about the gameplay it opened my eyes to care about the story.

A quaint little steampunk mecha adventure game that sadly never ran well on its original system, the PS2. I've never seen quite this mix of music, visuals, and gameplay. There's just nothing quite like it, and it's sad that it's been long forgotten by Atlus in favor of piles of Persona remasters.

A friend of mine absolutely loved this game after I loaned my copy to them. I feel that seeing it preserved on GOG, will in some small way also preserve their memory.
I don't think there's a game I'd like to see preserved more than this, as others have said here, it's not a huge game, but it more than makes up for that in sheer charm. In essence it's an RPG set in a late industrial era where the development of the automobile was superseded by the development of Trotmobiles (the titular steambot), large mechanized walkers that are used for everything from transport, to combat, to mining, to agricultural labor. It takes this premise and builds a genuinely unique take on an action rpg, whereby you drive around your Trotmobile using Katamari style controls, customize it with a large variety of parts including chassis, arms, and propulsion methods, and basically just kinda live in the world. There is a main story, but it's very easy to find yourself off the beaten track doing odd jobs for various people, vibing with the music minigame or any number of activities.
i got this game when i was in the army from the PX years ago and this game had it all mech building/customizing, arena fighting, dating sim, stock exchange, boss fights, home customizing, be part of a band, dungeon delving, pool, trading goods to buy/sell, and that is just what i can remember. and this is one of the few if only games i tried to find a ps2 emulator to try and run it on my pc after my ps2 died never could get it to run sadly and trying to find a working ps2 is just getting harder and getting more and more cost prohibitive. if gog was to have it for sale instant buy

Unlike earlier survival horror games that focused on protagonists with combat training, the main character Harry Mason is an average man. The player must regularly enter an inventory screen to check Harry's health, use items, and equip different weapons.

Freelancer
FreelancerEight hundred years prior to the start of our story, bitter conflict divided all of mankind. A handful of colonists struck out on their own to begin anew - far away from the Earth and its turmoil. Several ships were launched with enough equipment and supplies to give the hundreds onboard a fighting chance - but since the area around far-off Sirius had never been surveyed, no one really knew what to expect. What they found was a new frontier of free-flowing natural resources, unexplored territories, great wonders and lurking dangers. Each ship, representing the clusters of people and their earthly place of origin, settled into different parts of the galaxy pre-selected by their ship-board computer to give them the best chance of survival. Life was hard in the beginning, but over the 800 years the different colonies prospered and expanded their territories, claiming more and more systems for their own. Survival and propagation eventually led to growth and profit as each of the colonies developed specialties and fostered commerce. As the colonies grew and time passed their connections with their roots on Earth dwindled and they lost their memories of the conflicts of the past. Soon their attention was dominated by new, more immediate conflicts. Feelings of lost ancestral connection spurred anachronism in the look of the great cities, and created a somewhat distorted image of each colony's cultural heritage. In the ever-expanding outer edge of the territories, frontier lawlessness prevailed. The Houses: Each shipboard colony that left Earth carried some memory of its origins in its name. The Liberty carried Americans, The Bretonia flew from The United Kingdom and surrounding territory, The Kusari from Asia, and the Rheinland launched with Germanic cargo. As each ship settled and colonies began to expand, they knew little about each other and their advancing development. Finally, little by little, the individual colonies found each other and began to set up trade routes to link their systems for commerce and solidarity. Today, with each colony firmly rooted in its respective corner of the galaxy, the colonies rely heavily on each other for trade and industry but also compete for resources and new territories in the Border Worlds. The colonies mandate member governments in "The New Alliance" within the Sirius sector. To control conflicts, each colony has forged alliances and treaties with others as they have grown. Competition remains fierce, however. Struggles rage for supremacy in business, commerce, resources, power and control. There can be tenuous peace between colonies' political agendas, but the grabs for holdings constantly unsettle the volatile frontier.

Strider 2
Strider 2Strider 2, released in arcades and on the Sony Playstation in 2000, is the sequel to the popular arcade and multiplatform game Strider. This game is considered the true sequel to the original Strider, rather than Strider Returns. Strider Returns is not considered a part of the series, as it was not developed by Capcom, it was exclusive to the west, and most people hated it. Strider 2, on the other hand, was very well received. Unfortunately, despite being hailed by critics and series fans, Strider 2 did not sell well. The Playstation version of the game included the original Strider on a separate disc, for those who had never played it to become accomodated with the series. In the United States, there was a printing error for the game that swapped the labelling of each CD, so the Strider 2 disc was labelled Strider, and the Strider disc was labelled Strider 2.
