Hi there,

just recently decided to replay BG2 after a long long time. Unfortunately, the game isnt working for me.
Here is the issue:

Whenever I start the game, the actual game window in full screen is centered as a tiny square surrounded by black bars.

I've done some research on this forum and on google as well. Here is what I've tried so far, nothing seemed to help though:

1) Disabling 3D Acceleration

2) Using the Widescreen Mod to force a specific resolution

3) Running the game in various compatibility modes

4) Manually adjusting the resolution on my desktop and then starting up the game.

5) Trying different settings wiht the BGConfig.exe

Do you have any experience running this game flawlessly on Windows 8? I am a bit disappointed that GOG advertised this as "compatible" with Windows 8.

My system:
MacBook Pro (running Bootcamp on Windows 8 64 Bit)
Intel Core i7-4750
8GB RAM
Intel Iris Pro 5200

Thx!

With laptops, this is usually a laptop-specific setting. Some macbook pros have two overlapping boxes on the F7 key. Fn(or possibly another key)+F7 (or wherever the overlapping squares are) should change your laptop from displaying pixel-for-pixel to stretch.

See if you have the overlapping squares on your F1-12 keys and see if you can get the image to stretch.

Any game you started with widescreen mod attached will be incompatibly if you change resolution or don't have WS mod attached. I would recommend uninstalling it altogether before loading and saving.

P.S. That may or may not be the right key. It may be the external vs default display selector. I can't remember. My hp uses concentric rectangles to communicate the stretch idea. Try whatever looks like it may alter stretch. And perhaps there's something in a setting you can change (like under resolution, once upon a time there was a stretch/don't stretch check box (I'm talking maybe Win98.) There may be something like that still)
