What do you mean by the screen with the quote on it? Is that the intro movie?
The screen right after the Bioware screen, if I left click (and I'd presume any other press of a button in advancing) it crashes.

Yes, that's the intro movie. So you get the Black Isle, TSR and Bioware movies ok? And what if you let the intro movie run, instead of clicking. Does it take you to the game interface at the end of the movie? I'm just trying to determine if clicking (since that's what you're describing) is what's causing it. I somehow doubt it, but...
Still crashes if I let the intro movie play, I can see the blood flow into the title and then crash.

Then it sounds like you have a corrupt installation (it's not the movies). Do a complete uninstall, removing all remnants, then reinstall outside of Program Files folder structure, somewhere like C:\Games\Baldur's Gate\
idk wha happened. this game used to run perfectly.

hadn't played the game in awhile (baldurs gate tales of the sword coast) just loaded up my old save & am having problems.

it has nothing to do with the gog version, but rather its the old, 6 disk version, with totsc x-pan added on later.

my issue?

the game will randomly & without warning crash to desktop, without actually crashing the game, I simply have to alt tab back to it.

problem is ... its doing it frequently, & i mean frequently; as in like once a minute, or thereabouts.

it never used to do this. is this some stupid direct x windows update that's messing with it?

im using windows 7 64 bit, running it as an admin.

this didn't used to happen. hopefully its something as simple as adjusting the ini file, compatibility mode settings, or any myriad of other non re installation required fixes.

my version of BG reads as : v1.3.5508 (main menu) not sure if this is the EE or whatever it is. is this even the right patch?

thanks for any & all suggestions in advance.

This has nothing to do with the game. This is a background process in Windows that is stealing focus from the game, and forcing the desktop to the front. You need to be extremely selective in which programs you allow to remain running while playing games. Disable ANYTHING that requires updates, for example antivirus, and anything that is not absolutely necessary, for example messengers, browsers, utility applications etc. Close down anything in the sidebar, too -- in fact, close the sidebar from task manager if necessary.
