Thinking about making a monk for my next play thru, wanted to know what stats i should aim for and also any helpful tips.
You'll want dex 18, str 18, con 16 at least because you're a melee type. I don't think BG requires high wisdom but it wouldn't hurt. Int doesn't matter and Cha would be nice if you want him to be your party's face but you can get a ring that sets cha to 18 very early in BGII
The only thing wisdom will give you is a lore bonus. So don't worry about it. STR, DEX, and CON are the concerns for a monk. STR is not too important, because the monk will probably end up with a strength-enhancing item that makes base STR meaningless. I would pump up CON, and secondarily DEX. STR third. After that: INT, CHA, and WIS according to your whim.
TY for very much guys.
Reviving the topic.

I started a Monk in BG1 with these stats.

STR 18
DEX 18
CON 16
INT 8
WIS 14
CHA 8

My questions.

1. Does monk benefit from 18 Constitution?

2. Does monk benefit from high Wisdom?

3. I see some people put points to "single weapon". Are Monk's fists considered to be a single weapon?

tnx in advance. I have 10 days vacation and i am feeling like trying new things on BG.

ps. Thats my curse on BG. I keep trying new things thus never see the end of BG2.

EDIT: I am using BG Trilogy mod.

No to all of the above. They also get d8 hit points and fighter stronghold/HLAs. There is a component in the Oversight mod that lets them choose the cleric stronghold and gives them their own set of HLAs, however.

1. No.
2, No.
3. No, a monk is unarmed. Monks can use any 1 handed weapons that a thief can use.
Be aware that monk is a class designed and balanced for the high levels in BG2 and very weak in BG.
Thank you guys. I guess they added "single weapon proficiency" for earlier levels with long sword (or scimatar).
