Running it through the terminal I get this error:

I already have an i386 architecture, and I believe I created proper symbolic links. I'm really at all loss honestly.

Yes, just attempted to reinstall via apt-get, everything is up to date
In order to check which library you miss, execute the following command in the game directory:

ldd BaldursGateII
