Are most people enabling 3D animations and 3D acceleration under the 2D & 3D options? What about enabling the 3D acceleration box under the hardware tab? A lot of these functions I don't really understand. Do compatibility modes and running as administrator matter as well? I know a lot of this varies. Just curious what many are doing on newer laptops with windows 7 to run this game as smooth as possible. Thanks.

I'm not on a laptop, but my desktop is a Win7 rig. I've got the hardware tab at max with 'Use 3D Acceleration' checked. In the 2D&3D Options I have '3D Animations' checked, 'Use 3d Acceleration' checked and have the 'Default OpenGL Driver' selected. Also have 32 bit textures checked.

Hope that helps.

*edit* Oh, and I run the game as admin, but don't have any specific compatibility mode selected.

Hey Coel,

Good to hear from ya bud. I'm pretty sure I've have the same things checked. For the most part all my infinity engine games run really good. I do have consistent issues with the game flickering to my desktop for a quick second. Still haven't figured out what the issue is there. I sometimes get some framerate drop. Minor issues overall. Just wondering if it was something in the config menu since I don't really know one way or other if it should be checked or not. Thanks for the response man.
Because you have Windows 7 then the first thing is to confirm that your system is not blocking the adjustment you want to make. Open the config, change something (it doesn’t really matter what yet) then click apply and close it down. Now open it back up again and confirm that the new adjustment was retained… if not then you need to look at your security settings but as long as you installed outside the programs folder then you shouldn’t have this issue.

Visual
Critical hit shake screen = can cause rendering issues for some software based direct draw systems… if you get a problem the screen will look like it breaks up into little boxes.
Extra feedback = do you want to know the hit rolls and grid locations?

Miscellaneous
Cache Size = how much memory can the display use... at its core this game was made to run on systems using ram levels that just don’t exist anymore so go ahead and bump it up.
At least 3000… with 4 gig ram and windows 8 (a known ram hog) I use 30,000 MB
un-tick Gamespy unless you want to use it for multiplayer… to be clear; you can connect and use multiplayer without using Gamespy but If all your mates are on it as well then go for it.
Enhanced Pathfinding depends on cache size but I use shift right click system a lot and like 40,000… if you find your character has issues finding their way around the screen during combat then your Cache/ Pathfinding numbers are too low.

Frame Rate is the big one
Lots of modern screens have major issues with low frame rates because the flickering can cause headaches and such.
50-60 frames is ideal depending on your system… try 60 first and then 50

Speed adjustments
Turn up “frame rate” = turn down “automated 3D animations”… use blocks of ten but as an example my fancy new SonicMaster running windows 8 can't keep up with frames above 50 so I set animations to 60 but my older windows 7 Emachine loves a framerate of >60 and suffered screenlocks below 50 so it's a case of attempt and error.
automated 3D animations = If this is overlooked when you up the frame rate then the character animation will look like they are being watched in a video with the fast-forward button on.
