Every resolution setting has black borders to the left and right of the boxed image. If I use the widescreen mod or set the config 1024x768 it will give that resolution but just inside the box, still with black borders.

Things I've tried:

Various resolutions with widescreen mod.
Disabling 3D acceleration and using unsupported 1024x768 resolution (can't use the others)
Looked around in display settings in hope.
Yes I always load a new game with a character to see if it's just the menus.

Would really appreciate any advice. My laptop res is 1680x1050.

I took a screenshot and attached it here but unfortunately it didn't capture the borders.

It's a graphic card setting, depending on which graphic card and which version of Windows you have. nVidia cards, for example, need to be set in 'Adjust Desktop Size and Position'. Note, however, that the Infinity Engine games have fixed 4:9 assets, so if you scale the game (via GPU) to fit your widescreen monitor there will be stretching. That's why you get the letterbox effect.
SPOT ON IT"S WORKIIING!! :D

Thankyou so much. For those with ATI graphics card I went into Catalyst control center, and there was an option for making the image fullscreen rather than the default scale.

As you said there is stretching but I found a good option with widescreen mod where it is very minimal :) Yes!!
