mogicalboar: Ok, well i've just installed BG2 and had a go myself.. looks like it is possible if i move the save folder from the BG folder to BG2 directory.
That will not work with a TuTu installation. In TuTu, all of the area codes and much more have been changed, and these codes will still be the original BG1 codes in your saved games -- this data gets stored in your saved games.

So in a Tutu game I can't import a saved game to BG2? I've just finished the game without Tutu or any other mods because I had been using the wrong launcher. I can't tell if my install of BG2 is using Tutu.. I have 3 different folders right now, Baldur's Gate, Baldur's Gate Tutu and Baldur's Gate 2.

I think Hickory may have misunderstood your question slightly. If you're in the middle of playing BG1 in the BG1 engine, and want to continue your BG1 game in tutu, then Hickory has (correctly) said that this is...awkward in the extreme, if not completely impossible. If you've finished BG1 in the BG1 engine, and now want to play BG2 in the BG2 engine, then...yes, you can. Or you can import your main character, at least, which is slightly different. I haven't used tutu, so don't know if you'll have to uninstall it and reinstall vanilla BG2, but the game without mods is capable of bringing the main character from BG1 to BG2.

If you want to transfer a character from BG1 in tutu to BG2, that should also be possible. Again, I played in BGT which handles things automatically so don't know exactly how you do it, but it's written as part of the vanilla game, so should be fairly self explanatory.

No I didn't. The question was quite specific, ie:
"I had installed Tutu but I was still launching from the original .exe and hadn't noticed until the end while trying to locate my saved games folder."

The OP had been playing BG1 original, therefore the saved games will be in the original format, and impossible to switch over to TuTu.

You don't import a saved game. You import a character. There is a hell of a difference, but yes, you can import your character FROM the saved game, but NOT the saved game itself.

Your Baldur's Gate folder is the original Baldur's Gate 1.

Your TuTu folder is BG1 in the BG2 engine (TuTu).

Your Baldur's Gate 2 folder is Baldur's Gate: Shadows of Amn

Correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't "until the end" imply that he has now ended his BG1 game, and is ready to move on to BG2?

Either way, whether or not tutu is installed shouldn't affect how BG2 itself runs, unless I've misunderstood something?

It seems to me that it is you that has misunderstood, at least how I read it. The OP (as I see it) was playing BG1 from the original, even though he/she had installed TuTu. It was only towards the end of his/her playthrough that the mistake was noticed, by which time it was too late, and hence the question of 'can the saves be copied over' (to the TuTu installation).

Sorry, i'd just like to know if it is possible to import my character from the original BG1 (without TuTu) into BG2. I have already finished the game so i'm just concerned about any potential compatibility issues with doing so. I assume that the installation of TuTu affects BG2? If not then it's just a case of importing a BG1 character into a BG2 game and shouldn't be an issue?

Also, is it just the character that i'm importing or do i need to copy the save folder into the BG2 directory to import from a save?

Yes. When you got to the final battle in BG1 a 'Final Save' was created. The best way to carry your character over is to go into that save (just before the fight with Sarevok) and export your character. Make sure that you have the Golden Pantaloons on him/her, the Helm of Balduran, and either the Chainmail +3 or Mail of the Dead (+2), as these can be carried over -- there are others, but those are the best. You can leave the area if you have stored them somewhere. Once you have what you want, export your character, then quit the game. Find that exported character in your BG1 'Characters' folder, and copy it to your BG2 'Characters' folder. Now when you start a new BG2 game, select 'Import' / 'Character file' and point to the name of the character you exported. It is better doing it this way than copying the entire save folder over, which will not work in BG2.

People are saying Dual Class at level 13...

But, Isn't your fighter level 12? Then when you hit what would be level 13, You actually, go to level 1 cleric...

doing this let's you do the castle Keep quest, Getting the castle, and then dual classing, and being able to do a temple quest as well.

another thing if you do this, make sure you loot everything in the castle first, before the quest finishes.. When you return, you can now store things in your armory and they will stay. If you store before the castle converts, everything left behind is lost..
