So why does the game think I have a controller plugged in when I do not?

So far, I've been able to do everything with the keyboard and mouse -- but now I realize I cannot crouch. I tap the C button and it does nothing. I can re-map the Crouch (Hold) ability to the V button and that works, but it absolutely will not let me crouch with the C button. I cannot remap the C button to anything else, either. I try and it says "invalid binding."

I DO NOT HAVE A CONTROLLER?!!! HOW DO I GET THIS STUPID GAME TO REALIZE THAT?!!! IT'S MAKING IT IMPOSSIBLE TO PLAY!!! HOW CAN YOU PLAY THIS GAME WHEN YOU CANNOT CROUCH?!!!

I'm running Cyberpunk 2077, version 2.0 on a Windows 10 machine with a Ryzen 5 5600X CPU, an nVidia RTX 3070Ti GPU, and 32 GB of RAM. I have zero problems with anything other than this stupid controller issue and the inability to crouch.

HELP!

EDIT: Apparently I can't dodge, either?! WTF?!

Ok... If I actually go get an XBox controller and plug it into my computer, suddenly all my keys work fine?!

WTF?!!!!
This continues to be an issue for me. Every time I start Cyberpunk 2077, it thinks I'm using a controller. I'm still not.

I have to get my controller, plug it in, then press a few buttons, then go back to using the keyboard and mouse, and it finally realizes I'm using a keyboard and mouse -- then it shows me the proper key "hints," and it will let me crouch and dash.

AND the same thing happens if I re-load a savegame. Say I'm fighting a heavy boss, so I quicksave, then I need to quickload -- it loads the game just fine, but it shows the controller button "hints" instead of the keyboard "hints," and I can't crouch or dash. So I have to crouch and jump using the controller, then I can crouch and dash using the keyboard and mouse again.

It's *EXTREMELY* inconvenient to have to do this every time I load a game. What is UP with this?!
Yup... it's the same for all PC players.
I hope they fix this ASAP!

Oh good -- so it's not just me then. I was beginning to wonder.

In the meantime, I found a much better fix:
