I've run this game on my current rig before with no issues, but this time it's giving me grief. If I run it without the hi-res mod the game goes all gross looking and unplayable at the menu (although the intro video runs great), and with the hi-res mod installed it seems to run fine, I can hear the intro video running and the menu sounds, but everything on screen is black from the word "Go".

I installed the GoG version and the mods, in the correct order, via this guide. I can't seem to attach my DxDiag in any way, but I'm running Win XP SP3, Athalon 64 X2 Dual Core 2.5GHz, and a GeForce 9800 GT. My monitor is 1650x1080 native, although right now I'm only trying to get it to run in 640x480, or possibly 800x600.

Any ideas?

EDIT: I can now confirm that Fallout 2 does the exact same thing. I've traced the issue back to the ddraw.dll file in both cases. If I leave the file I get the standard "Error initializing video mode 640 x 480" message, but when I delete it I get the error from my OP.

I solved this by manually overwriting all of my DX9c files, then restarting my computer. I had to do a manual overwrite because the installer kept telling me there was nothing wrong and aborting. Hopefully this helps some other people.
