Just want to see the progress of game installing, not see ads. The same ads to the same games I don't want to buy.

Here I find them charming. While I generally loathe ads in other contexts, I guess I see these as part of the last vestige of pure PC gaming (which if they get rid of the offline installers someday in favor of the "optional" client, would evaporate entirely). Sort of like if you watch an old show that was taped, and get nostalgia for some movie or something that was advertised and better than anything in the modern industry.

I honestly see no problem with games being showcased in the offline installer. Just open something else while letting your game install. I doubt you'll be staring at your offline installer the whole time while waiting for your game installation to finish anyway.

... wait until they get the idea to advertise games from other stores. They're already planning to have third party stores in Galaxy. Or maybe they've already added them? I don't know to be honest, since I don't use Galaxy.

One thing I actually miss are the original setup programs. Many games, especially around the 2000 period, had custom ones which showed some images, artworks, story etc.

Westwood games had great installers for example. I still remember Nox or Command & Conquer ones with custom sounds, animations etc. It is something that is lost to time even on GOG as they use their own installers for everything.

Funny you should mention that, because I remember my jaw dropping when I first saw the C&C (Tiberian Dawn) installer back in the day. Some installers did indeed come with background music/sounds and artwork, but those were... more civilized times, when the gaming industry was a work of love and attention, not cash grabs, DLCs and microtransactions.

They're kinda funny though when they're advertising games that got pulled from gog. Especially if they got pulled over spicy behind the scenes drama, like Fez.

On principal I totally get where the OP is coming from, but I actually feel the same as you. They feel like something leftover from old GOG, and thus nostalgic.

I take it you're the type who fed the brochures and catalogues that came with big box games right into the shredder. Tell me what parties you go to so I can avoid them.


It's just like a kiosk/brochure for products actually within the store.

Wow, look at all the people giving this a low rating because they have a problem with me having a problem with GOG showing me ads for the same dozen games every time I install a game from them.

Should be DRM and AD free.

I don't mind them at all. If you dislike those ads that much you could use Innoextract and never have to see them again. ;-)
