(That's my resolution for this year. Beat the Myst games. Worked through Myst: Masterpiece Edition, and I'm now working through Riven.)

They're turn based tactical RPGs (pretty much my favourite genre so I am a little biased) and very good examples of the genre.
And as I see you have expressed a preference for puzzle games; I'd definitely recommend SpaceChem. You can usually pick it up for under £1 (or a $1 I presume) when there's a big sale on and it's an excellent puzzle game.
I don't play many shooters / FPSs any more, but I can certainly recommend Unreal Tournament and Jedi Knight 2.
