Poll:

Home computers only, no other platforms.
Edit: Please disregard TIE Fighter here, it's a 1994 game and ended up in both polls by mistake.

Consider creativity, sound chip limitations and technical achievement, composition (melody or hook, progression, complexity), dynamics (range between quiet and loud, soft/diminuendo and hard/crescendo), pitch range, punch, instrument and instrument envelope variety and quality, and so on. We're going by original release dates.

Try to say something about your favorite(s), it's more fun to read!

Music links (multiplatform list - if a game you want to vote for isn't in the poll list then do a search here with ctrl+f, it's probably included and not forgotten about. If I did completely miss an OST though then please mention it in the thread):

Asteroid Dance, Part 2. Had it as my ringtone for a long time.
Interesting year - starting to get CD audio in as well as General Midi and digital soundblaster music.

Question though - wasn't Tie Fighter in 1994?

Oops, I thought I removed that before posting. It was erroneously listed in both years on the site, using different sound setups.

Some great options, but without any doubt: Warcraft 2
Ecco, nothing quite beats that Redbook raw ambiance.
No option for The Dig? It had one of the most atmospheric soundtracks of all LucasArts point & click games.

Guess I missed it. From 1995 onwards I haven't looked into the CD audio ones as much so I just browsed mobygames' list before making this one. WIll try to be more thorough for the next one.

Edit: Actually it wasn't in their CD audio tracks list, so I put all blame on Moby!

1995 is where it gets really difficult to choose with so many good candidates; Hexen, Tyrian, C&C, Terminal Velocity, Descent, The DIg, Albion, WipeOut, WarCraft 2, Pyrotechnica and many many more...

As much as I love the work from the others, I have to go with Alexander Brandon and Andreas Molnar's work with Tyrian OST if I have to choose one game :)

And since I'm a sucker for remixes:

I was tempted to vote for Crusader but am instead going to continue to fly the flag for the Amiga in its last real year of relevance (even though you didn't include any Amiga games on the list).

So I have voted other in the poll and the game is Gloom, which has a lovely haunting electronic soundtrack.
