Never heard of of had that bug before myself, but in general a still good source for info on Morrowind is the UESP site:

IIRC the offical forums got a bit pants so you need to search around for the best guides and fixes etc.
Edit: God knows what is wrong with the weblink. Whatever i try GOG forums decide to create the mess above!! You can probably copy/paste out the working bits youselves!!!

I had a bug in oblivion similar to that but an empty "Potion" or "Poison"
it would say
POTION~NAME
POISON~NAME
It was hilarious.
