This is a thread about chairs. Yes, really. I've got a Steelcase Leap V2. While it have served me well, being inherited from my aunt in practically unused condition, it's gotten on in years, and short of paying (who knows how much) for reconditioning, I'm of the mind to ponder the places where the buttocks go among the masses of asses.

I know I could be looking for Aeron chairs in office sales, and probably should have lept in during the venture capitol bubble, but I can be too thrifty at times.

What do you sit on? Does it do you well? good support and other anti-shrimping measures?

(Trust me, I'd love an ERA Galaxy chair, but that's at least 1100$ over budget.)

Addendum: I am willing to try atypical chair forms such as balls, kneeling chairs, standing supports, and what have you.
The chair would have to be able to arrive up a single flight of stairs, and hold around 90 kg.

I bought some garbage office chair from Walmart for a little over $80 three years ago as a starter for my crappy little bedroom office. I contemplated getting another one, but decided I wasn't going to spend hundreds on a chair that may not even serve me well UNTIL this one breaks down. Hasn't yet, so my posterior still sits upon it to this day.

Now this is an appreciable thread indeed. It's not really something that younger people care much about or even consider while gaming. As we get older, however, we realize the error of our self-neglect. Gaming can actually lead to muscle atrophy, disc herniations in the neck and lumbar spine, as well as circulatory issues in the hands and feet...not to mention a flat ass. Ideally, we'd want a fully supportive cushioned chair with neck support fitting the natural curvature of the spine. So yeah....we're talkin' some major cash.

As for me, knowing these things at 48 years old, I sit in a hard-backed kitchen chair while slouching. I used to have an office chair from Amazon, but it was mesh fabric and you can't clean the butt funk out of it .

I'm neither making jokes nor being a smartass. I'd upvote the hell out of this post!!!!!!!!!!

I have one of those Herman Miller Aeron chair thingys. It has served me well for about 10 years, but here are some of the design flaws which, unless mitigated by more recent revised models, come to the fore only after years of prolonged use:

- Continued pressure or abrasion on the arm rests can lead to disintegration of the material.
- Continued pressure on the mesh material used for the seat and back rest can lead to some sagging when used.
- Continued or excessive weight placed on the chair seat can lead to the plastic housing the Hip Bolt buckling. This can be mitigated somewhat by periodic rotation and rehousing of the bolt.

In other words, eventually something on this chair will need replacing, and because of its plastic construction, it is not readily fixed.

Also, the suitable height metrics start to fall apart at the upper limits. If you are in the top echelon of their size charts. They say the chair is suitable for persons in the height ranges of 6'4"- 6'7"/ 193cm - 201cm, but assuming someone would wish to rest their entire back and shoulders on the rest, I would disagree. People of this height tend to have a torso length that exceeds the back rest length of 561mm.

Comfy spin friendly, on wheels POS from Staples. As everything is made in china. It no longer matters, in terms of quality. Short of custom made.

When my seat rips, I buy a tube of 100% liquid silicome. Jab the pointy tube head into the split gaps. Squirt a nice, thick , load........no seriously, get yer mind outa the gutter!(lol). Fill gaps until it comes back at you slightly. Find something else to sit on for 3 days while it cures and you dont even notice it. If its greasy, lay layers of paper towel over each injection. The dry paper helps absorb some moisture....maybe. Ok, I use the paper because im to impatient and I sit on it anyway xD

This sounds incorrect.

I deadlifted 250 kg / 550 lbs last year and I use a cheap $150 mesh chair. Most people are just undermuscled and that's what's causing them everyday pain. No academic research papers needed here.

No....it's 100% correct. You just happen to be the exception to the rule of nerdy lazy gamers. You get off your ass and exercise. That's the big difference. I was saying this about people who sit all day. Trust me, this does happen. Sitting like that for prolonged periods leads to stenoisis of the spine. My husband is a nerdy lazy gamer who got stenosis that way. Took him three years to recover and get off his ass. He's not doing olympic deadlifting like that though. What are you, Ronnie Coleman?...because those are professional big boy numbers of the elite lifters. I'm sorry...but I call BS.

I'm a woman...but I use 2x 50 lb dumbells for fullbody exercises. I"m 48...so, not too bad after 2 years training. lol Keep up the lifting, good sir. Progressive overload is the key. You're on the right track.

I'm sitting on the same old swivel chair that I had for over 15 years. The fabric has been worn out, but otherwise served me well. I'm considering upholstering instead of getting a new chair.

That's gotta be the most weird topic title I've seen on GOG. :P
But its true. Thanks for the reminder.

On the topic of exercises allied with good postures:
A good exercise that helps to build up back muscle is plank:
https://www.menshealth.com/fitness/a46800165/what-muscles-do-planks-work/

It helps to avoid future back pain by strengthening the 'core' region muscles.
There are varied levels of planks and variations of the exercise too, which you should adapt depending on your age, resistance and weight.

(Please don't go jumping on the ground doing the hardest one otherwise you might hurt yourself, just a general rule to anybody reading anyway.)

Its not that hard once you start with small timings. 10s, 20s, 30s, taking breaks and making the time higher as time goes, with responsibility and understand your body.
Again: Depending on your age, resistance and weight. Do not force it if you can't. Start with 5s if needed.

I'm not that physical but when I started doing it, I could do 30s. After 2 weeks I could get to 1m, 2m and really felt the difference on back strength.

Come February 5th, I'll have parked my backside on a DXRacer Formula F01 for exactly eight years.
Cost me €189,- back in 2017. Might be a little more pricey nowadays.
So far I have no reason to complain.
Its backrest can be adjusted up to 135°, which - while not exactly horizontal - even allows you to sleep on that thing (if you have something around, to rest your lower legs/feet upon).

I've had a Arozzi Vernazza fabric chair for a few years now, and it has been great. Usually comes out on top in the tests I've read, and has most of the adjustable functions you'd need. Also doesn't look too gamer-y, and the furniture fabric will probably not wear out as fast as leather. Bought it on sale for around 280 Euros. My father has also bought the same chair a few weeks ago, and he is very happy with it.

Fun thread. A lot of good old Games ; )
It isn't that easy to bring my chair here as I moved it to the far end of the green into my Grandpa Pig's Shed, where new inventions and ideas are born when visiting.
This move revealed new horizons when, e.g., sitting on a self-built elevated sofa made of a table covered with an upholstered sofa back as a seat while a pillow rested on the radiator, giving that back heat.
The butt is placed on several different pieces of furniture due to the operation of a few different machines around the place.
My bedroom chair is my bed lol You recom? I do. What a wonderful play it is with wireless or long-wire controllers, giving your long-for-comfort a rest. Pillows on the headboard. That goes with G2, a purposefully modified machine, offline, running games '00-09. Once there is too much comfort, sleepyhead syndrome, I stand up and play arcade games on an arcade joystick, occasionally joined by others with joy. The third is just sitting on the edge of a bed, which requires a special pillow or a blanket to build a proper seat.
The living room contains G90, for games from the '90s and before. There are two bar chairs with footrests; this is good for up to two hours, and I'm thinking of a bucket seat here. Because games from the '90s are awesome, and you want to spend some free time grinding its possibilities and engines.
Here comes G10, my way, able to run most games (gtx1060), going to be entangled with "55 above the fireplace on a special shelf (normal shelf, butt, I think it's special). No chair. Sofa and pouffe. 3.5m (metric system came from pyramid's top) from screen to head. Wireless all.
Office high profile chair, still need one. Too British? nah xD Obsession is international.⁷
