Lodium: Destroying stock that is unsold.... wow, if thats not bad for the environment i dont know what is
i coud understand it if the stock was damaged alot or had been a long time in storage withouth being sold even with price reduction , but i must say im honestly shocked i didnt imagine they did that
Destroying coud also actually be bad for presevration or the abilty to search up an old title
if there was sold a low number of copys and the majority of stock got destroyed it migth be possible some information of a game, merchandise etc get lost to time

Yeah, it's devastating that they do this. I'm glad I got the few games, dakimakura covers, and whole host of other things because they were rescued. I'm sure most would have sold, too, if they had been discounted. But that rarely happens. The only times I've seen brand new games discounted are when:
The store is closing down and they can't return stock. -- I got Wind Waker for 500 JPY on the week it released because the store was no longer selling games and they were clearing out stock that the distributor wasn't accepting back.
The system the game is for is no longer on the market. -- I got several PSP and PS2 games brand new for 90% off their RRPs last week because the store is no longer selling games for those systems. Yep, dropping support for PS2, etc., is only just happening (sadly though, that includes second hand titles).
The game was a massive flop and it was published by Square Enix -- They're the only publisher I know who regularly do this. The last time being Avenger and Crystal Chronicles Remastered.
Most of the stuff you'll see Japanese stores discount for sales, etc., are second hand titles. As, at that point, the manufacturer and distributor no longer have control over the pricing.
